Default New gears....need to reflash computer.

Just changed gears and of course now I need to update the computer (m6). Know anyone in the Louisville area that's is reasonably priced that can take care of this for me? Had it priced locally, and in my opinion......it was STUPID high.

What year is the car? Anyone with HP tuners can do it, but it will cost $ 100 in credits, unless they have unlimited licenses for your year/car type.

It's a 2000 ss....but the computer is from an 02 formula I believe. I'm thinking they are the same, but not sure though. And yea, I understand about the credit thing, but I'm pretty sure this individual has unlimited access.

Who tuned the car. They should already have credits for it.

A local speed shop owner. Don't want to blast him out on here, but he's wanting $60 just to flash the new ratio. I'm fairly certain he has unlimited access, but he still wants $60....and I refuse to pay that on principal alone. It's a five minute job......tops.

You said stupid high so I thought you were gonna say something like a full dyno tune price. $60 bucks isn't THAT bad. They guy still has to pull the car in, hook it up, load your stuff up, change the S, get the car back out. NOTHING takes 5 minutes.

Just to be clear, I understand the man needs to be compensated for his time. But with that said, I've flashed my other 4th gen many times and I could change something as simple as gear ratio and reflash in a matter of minutes. Maybe not 5....but NO more than 10 minutes.

OP, I totally agree with you man. I would not pay $60. I would call him back and say:

"Here's the deal man, if you take the 3 mins to change my gear ratios in the tune, then I will leave you positive feedbacks on both Facebook, and Yelp. Deal?"

Eh, I think I'm going to leave em alone and check with another semi local tuner....and see what he's talkin bout. See, it's stuff like this that makes me want to be full circle.....do EVERYTHING in house. When people think they have you over a barrel.....you get prices like this. Right now, the two things I can't do are tuning (probably about to change soon) and machine work.

Guess it won't get done then....that is....until I purchase my own software. Then I can do that......and take care of my own tuning. Sick of dealing with people.

I would think this is very true, and really don't understand why someone would get uptight over 60 bucks.

God you guys in the US have it good.
By the time I order HPTuners I'm at least 1k deep.
Dyno tune is about twice that much, and at the end of it the car still won't idle or drive worth a ****.
We have one master in our area who is really good, but first tune is still around 800 bucks, it's kind of discouraging to want to change anything that requires a re-tune.

I'm upset because something this simple can literally be done in 10 minutes, and requires no effort other than plugging into the a ALDL port and a few key strokes. I understand that you guys in Canada and the UK are used to getting rapped on a constant basis....but I don't live in either of those regions.

Buy hptuners and start learning. Everyone with a turbo car should atleast learn the basics of data logging and making simple tweaks. It's an investment that will save you lots of money in the long run.

Do you think he should run his business for free ?

It's perhaps a 5 minute job if you've paid for the gear to do it etc.

Show me where I so much as even hinted that he should do it for free. If you notice, I even made mention that I understand he must be compensated for his time.

Well you cannot do it yourself any cheaper, you dont have the overheads I presume his business has ?

$60 is hardly unreasonable, you could **** more away on a night or two drinking.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. $60 for a 10 minute gear ratio reflash is asinine. If you believe that is a great deal, that's cool......but I certainly don't. If his overhead is to the point of needing to charge $60 for 10 minutes and a few keystrokes, something is bad wrong

Who said it was a great deal ?....I said you can't do it any cheaper.

And clearly you've never run a business.
