Default Help choosing turbo!
I picked up an 05 5.3 the other day, I also have an lq4 but I figured the 05 5.3 with better rods and pistons will handle the boost better. As of right now I plan on running the 5.3 with a set of 243 heads not milled. Ls6 intake, Undecided on which head gaskets ATM. It'll have studs, and of course a custom grind cam. Plan to make as much power as possible on the sbe. I'm limited to 93 octane + Meth. I had planned on running an s480 on the lq4 but since the change in displacement I feel like the 5.3 wouldn't spool the s480 as well. My hot side consists of truck/ c6 manifold 2 1/4" crossover to a t4 flange, but I can have a t6 flange welded to it. Any insight on how well an s480 would spool with that combo would be great. I prefer the s480 because it's under 1k so if any one has any suggestions as to a different turbo I would like to stay around the same price range. Thank you in advance!

I was hoping anywhere from 800-900hp. I would like to be running high 8's this year.

your cam selection and tuning will play a big factor in spool time

It would probably be very beneficial to call someone like LJMS, Tick, or Martin Smallwood and get all your parts in order to obtain your goal the first shot.

Yeah, I've been meaning to do that. That probably would be my best bet.

Beginning to wonder if I have enough room for a t6 size turbo. Here's a picture of my kit with a pt88, wondering if anyone could tell by looking at the picture if I have enough room to fit an s476. I'll be keeping my 2.25" crossover just welding a t6 flange to it instead.

I'm thinking I can bend the crossover toward the radiator support some, remount the radiator a little further forward and cut into the radiator support to make it work
