I don't know, is there a way to tell with out pulling the heads? The block casting number under the passenger side head by the flexplate is 12567392. I can't find info anywhere on it

15#'s of boost is far from a max effort deal. FWIW Denmah made over 700 whp w/ a th-400 with 862 heads (same as 706's) with a china 88mm turbo. Unless you plan on making more than that, I wouldn't even open the motor up (except for a cam and valve springs). He had flat top pistons too btw.

Don't contradict yourself. You say you can only run 15# because of what the stock bottom end will hold, but say you want 799 heads for more power.

Either of those heads will flow enough to send those rods into sunlight. Spending money on new heads and possible machine work is a step in the wrong direction.

If your 04 has floating pin rods, you can run a LOT more than 15 lbs. Those rods starting popping up in 5.3s in 04.

^^^^^This

Although you didn't state what turbo you will be running, 15psi will not be close to maxing out whatever you decide to go with. Use the heads you have and spend the money on the fuel system and tuning. The difference in HP between the head options you are looking at equates to around 1 psi of boost, which is basically free.

My plan is to run two 60ish mm turbos through an intercooler. I'm not sure which ones to get yet, I do have the intercooler picked out that will fit in the nose of the nova. I've been reading for days trying to figure which ones to get, any suggestions?

Depends on your price range.

I'd personally run Chinese GT35s from VS Racing.

Twin 76s for a mild 5.3 is very much overkill lol. Even with those small turbines they won't be much fun on the street.

You still haven't posted a hp goal. Without that, you're pissing in the wind. While you're spending all this time reading, you aught to check out Denmah's threads. He's run about every china turbo on 4.8 or 5.3's.

If you really do want a max effort 5.3 deal, I'd look at what these guys did: http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=717938

Shine a light down the spark plug hole. (LED pen light works great) Should be pretty obvious.. Most of the gen3 stuff will have this cross on it if it's domed. Thats a good sign that you have the weaker rods as well.

Flat tops look like so.

Im also in md and live close to MIR. You said you just got stationed here so I'm assuming you at Andrews Air Force base. There is a really good machine shop right in Clinton I've been using for 15 years. They do a ton of ls stuff and are very knowledgeable. The name is Clinton machine shop and there located off old Alexander ferry rd. Do not mess with any machine shops in Waldorf they are a joke.

I'm in the navy down at Pax River, when I was putting my bbc to gather I went to a couple and promptly went somewhere else a few times. Lol. I found an real old guy up towards Annapolis that was good. He does older stuff though. Where can I get it tuned around here. I can bring the car back home in MA and see if I can get DMC racing to do it. But that's a a 9 hour ride pulling a trailer
