Default Stupid oil feed question.

Old turbo had a restrictor, new turbo is a Borg. Picked up a 1/4 npt to 4an fitting. Any certain teflon paste a guy should use on the feed fitting into center section of turbo?

Should really use a liquid sealer. Not the plumbers dope from Home Depot but an anaerobic type sealer. I use it on all my pipe fittings

Using teflon tape should be reserved for home repairs, you risk the chance of it flaking or coming apart during install and plugging something up

In the process of swapping my first Borg s476 in to replace a turbonetics 7875 BB. There is a restrictor/filter fitting on the inlet of the turbonetics....I was planning on running the -4 feed straight to the Borg without a restriction orifice. The shaft is a larger diameter and there is a noteable amount of shaft play dry even though its practically brand new. I want to get as much oil as possible to this thing and then put an orifice in the supply line if need be given I see oil pushing past the seals/smoking etc. I might run an external little inline filter assembly on the feed still.

Do most of you send max oil to the borg units? Sorry to hijack...thought maybe you knew the answer since your doing exactly this right now. Thanks

No restrictor, that's why I'm asking this question lol. Old turbo had restrictor in the flange that bolted to the turbo.

And yes Borg have a stupid amount of slop out of the box

Your old turbo had ball bearings that's why it had a restrictor. They dont need as much oil.

Yes I am aware of the need for a restrictor in a BB cartridge. I have also ran a restrictor in certain journal bearing units due to over oiling. I wasnt sure if the Borg experienced that as well.

If you habe a highvolume/ high pressure you might. Friend went back down to a 3an line feed and had no issues with a high pressure pump.

Just fyi,

Geoff at full race told me that for the installation of my new BW turbo, if I want to run an Oil Feed line to the turbo longer than 3 feet you would want to use a -6an line instead of the -4an.

Edit: stumbled across the technical document for Borg Warner,
"Oil flow requirement is another key distinction. The ball bearing
system does not require much oil to function properly. We have
integrated an oil restrictor into the bearing housing so an external orifice
SHOULD NOT BE ADDED. The oil does provide a cooling function in
addition to keeping the ball raceways lubricated, so the oil flow will
continue to be 25-50% of that required for a conventional system. A
-4AN male fitting has been provided on the EFR turbo and a -4AN (1/4”)
line is sufficient as long as the engine supply pressure is healthy and the
line(s) are kept short. If the line is longer than about 18” then it’s
advised to step up to a -6 supply line.
This is most critical for people
living in cold climates."

I have an S482 journal bearing. Bed mounted. about 10ft of -4 line with no issues using a High volume pump. I also used ARP liquid thread sealer. Works great.
