Broke tranny on first night out
By the time I got back home (about an hour) it was acting up again. I tried to get some more indications by driving it a couple days. It sometimes neutraled out in 3rd AND 4th, and would bang extra-hard in 1-2 shift (and maybe, I'm not sure) in 2-3, sometimes. I could get it to shift and not neutral out.
I removed the thing Friday and took it to him Saturday. After taking it apart, upon removing the input sprag, we found the problem.
The cage(?) bearings were flipped. It's almost like they got starved for fluid at some point. He'd put the performance input sprag in before, so we can't figure why it would die, unless it was defective new, or it did not get fluid at some fluke point.
He didn't charge me for going thru it nor for a replacement for that part (he could'nt put another one i n right then and there because he only stocks the stock GM input sprag). But, should be able to get the tranny back from him by mid-week and get that sucker back in. I went ahead and had him put in the extra heavy duty shell "The Beast" and the Z-Pack 3&4 clutch kit, to see how much longer this 4L60E might last.
If I don't get two seasons out of it (wear-wise), I'll save up for the Gear Vendors OD and a TH350 or Powerglide setup.
I've gotta have OD on my tranny.
