Default Converter for turbo?

Good afternoon Gents,

I'm looking for some input on a converter for my truck. It is a weekend driver only and will probably only see the track twice a year. Looking for something with good deliverability. Truck is a 70 c10 with a single turbo ls1 and approximately 10 pounds of boost. Cam is a speed inc tu1 225/225 581/581 on a 113. Trans is a stock 4l60e. I've never driven or rode in a car with a converter. Should I just keep the stock one in as it won't be raced? Any input is appreciated.

IMO what you have, is a slippery slope. There is no sense in putting in a converter unless you beat on it, and want it to be faster, in which case, your going to break a 60e, unless you throw a **** load of $ at it. I have now broke 2, just with my modded 6.0. My second is/was a built 65e. I am done with them and will be doing a 80e. I hate throwing good money after bad.

IMO, you didnt build a turbo LS truck to ease around and if you did, why ? With a stock converter, you are pushing things HP wise. Shread the converter, destroy the trans. Of course , like rpturbo said, the 4l60 is an accident waiting to happen with that turbo LS too, so I would start looking for a TH400 or 4l80e, and buy the converter when you sell the 4l60e and drop a beefier trans in that beast.

Unfortunately I don't have the funds for a 4l80e or the necessary pieces that go with it. I imagine the 4l80e is bigger and would require me to cut up the floor ect, plus a different harness. If rather drive it how it is and save up and make that a winter project.

Thats a great plan. I think you will be money ahead to ease the truck around, save up, and do the 4l80 OR the TH 400. The TH400 a cheaper route, and with the way a turbo engine like load and tall gears, you can throw a 3.08 rear gear and some tall tires at it and have good hiway rpms without an OD.

I would def go with a 4L80 in a truck. And then I'd look at a streetable stall that can handle the power like a 3B Triple Disk from CircleD... 3400 stall works well with a lot of quick spooling turbo combos.

Sell your functioning 4l60 while it still functions. Blow it up and it's worthless. Use the funds to obtain a functioning 4l80. Do some looking, there are good deals if you look around. Denmah has plenty of info on the SloppyMechanics Wiki on how to implement a basically stock, Transgo HD2 equipped 80e to very good effect.

Just remember you've been warned and educated. If you cry about a trashed 4L60 six months from now you'll feel dumb knowing that you could have saved yourself the headache and expense.

I'm not familiar with a 70 c10 but in my 04 Silverado it was just a cross member, pigtail harness (which several places sell and its plug n play & it's $100), and run 1 wire to the pcm for the VSS. Then perform a segment swap. I use HP tuners. Of course there's the 4l80e, convertor, and trans yoke. we can get j/k 4l80e's in my area for a few hundred bucks so it's actually cheaper than rebuilding a 60e! You can also just repin a few wires instead of buying the pigtail harness to save the $100. Some say you need to shorten the drive shaft like 1/2" and others just run the same drive shaft as the 4l60e without any problems.

I think I'm going to buy a meth kit being I can only get 91 octane where I live instead of the converter. When I make the switch to the 4l80e I'll get a converter for that.
