My district manager dragged super comp and a few other classes semi pro for many years and today he was able to shed some light on a few things. I brought up how choosing a gear for 1/8 mile is whooping my A$$. So he kinda of broke everything down into retard language that i could actually understand. It finally clicked, i get what people are saying now. My thought process was 180 degrees off. Lower gear (higher numarically) will load engine better and remove stresses on the engine at the time of launch due to the car trying to overcome the inertia of the gears. Which in turn will help the car out of the hole. GOT IT. After talking to him he has shown me the light that so many others were trying to. LOL Thanks to Forcefed86 and tblentrprz for being patient

So, going back a step or two i now agree that if i want to trap 125 mph @ 7500 rpms w/ 28inch tire i will require a 5.00 gear (in optimal HP/RW combo) to reach 5.6x 1/8th ET

If trap RPM proves to be better or worse than expected then gearing may change (i.e. lower rpm=higher gear and higher rpm=lower gear)

The biggest hurdle will be getting RW down to desirable amount. I read that its common for 4th gen F bodies to achieve 3000 lbs which would put me at 3250 RW. How difficult is it for a DIY average joe to get it sub 3000lbs?

If you can find a guy with a big pressure washer,, and I mean BIG, they can peel the asphalt insulation off the bottom of the body with it and any undercoating. I've seen 300 plus lbs off a car doing this..

Friend and I did this:
5.0 Fox Mustang(Road Racing) thats right at 2400 wet. We dismantled the car to a bare tub, Liquid nitrogen stripped the body then had it acid dipped, then trimmed all the body seams and hole sawed non structural bits . Steeda aluminum suspension in the rear, fiberglass rear-hatch (almost 100 lbs alone!) Glass hood, AL cowl, gutted both doors to shells, dash gone using a STACK cluster for all the instrumentation, Kirk seat, Ford motorsports block and AL heads, stepped headers, We lightened any thing we bolted back on. All perspex windows. Al can for the fuel cell, relocated battery car is now corner balanced 55% front 45% rear. Steering rack got chucked in a lathe and turned 5 lbs off it, it was a special aluminum version before we started. (Still have power steering Chrome Moly 8 pt tigged cage. Willwood brake system all around. Tilton brake and clutch master cylinders.

FWIW when we dismantled the car, the interior alone was north of 600 lbs. (Electric seats carpet wiring harness, more ugly asphalt insulation inside all the headliner door panels etc.. ) filled/covered all the holes with 24g Al sheet. The role of AL we went through was about 40 lbs.. We mounted all the electrical including the ignition where the passenger side of the dash was supposed to be.. Dual ignition systems.. (Car owner likes fancy schmancy.. )

That's a lot of gear man. Don't know if you will see any boost in first or second lol. I could be way off but that just seems way over what I think is normal for a turbo car.

So after accounting for converter slip (6%) it brings rear to 4.72, but since there is no 4.72 the next one is 4.56. Will launch hard with less engne work

That's 7k through the traps. We plan to spin it to 75-7700 this year and try and run 5.70 index class we ran a 6.50 class last year so we never turned it any harder

I know its been awhile since i got on here to update my build... a lot has happened but in reality not that much has happened.

Cage status:
Took a bit more slicing and dicing than i had originally planned out and my build times were shortened which drew out the process.
However everything is where it needs to be and we are in the final welding stage. Another weekend and it will be complete. Any suggestions on Roll cage corrosion prevention?

Parts that have arrived since last update:
1: Pair of used QA1 SA Front coil overs
2. PTC 9.5 billet converter
3. Holley Fuel Rails
4. MS3 LSx Gold Box
5. 60mm Wastegate
6. 50mm BOV
7. (2) AEM 380lph Fuel pumps

Parts still on order:
Hooker 8510HKR Turbo manifolds (est ship in 2-3 weeks)

Parts on the next order:
Electronic boost controller that i can connect to my MS3
1:1 fuel pressure regulator
Assorted Fuel fittings and hoses ( how hard is it to make your own lines?/)
(2) Fuel Pre-filters
5 gal. Aluminum Sumped fuel cell
Ignition Control panel
Kirkey Pro drag seat
Race craft F body seat bracket

Im hoping to get the cage done in the next couple of weekends and ill pull out all the parts i have waiting to be installed and take pictures.

Love the 4.8 builds.
Your build is looking good. Keep at it. Be interesting to see how it spools that turbo.
