Default E85 vs 100+ octane.

Ok so I am running a 408 with a BW S480, I know a little small for the motor, that makes about 850ish on 16 pounds. I am going to turn the boost up soon to try and squeeze around 1000 out of the turbo and my tuner wants me to run some higher octane to do that.

After looking around at race gas prices vs E85 prices it seems like it would be WAY cheaper to run E85 and I have a station within 30 minutes from me.

In this situation would you guys run E85 or stick with some higher octane fuel plus meth?

i haven't run e85 yet but if were me I think i'd run the meth anyway just for the lower IATs, especially if trying to max out a smaller turbo

It does to me as well I am just making sure there aren't any underlying issues before I talk with my tuner about it because I don't know anything about E85 and I was planning on keeping the meth on it as well.

Issue with E85 is you basically need 50% more fuel system to run it. Weigh the cost of larger lines/injectors/pump(s)/labor/tuning VS running higher octane fuel once and a while. By the time you upgrade the fuel system you'll easily have a few thousand into it. That's alot of race gas.

I'm a fan of E85 myself and run it on all my toy cars... but I have several stations in my town.

I figured I am going to have to upgrade injectors, was planning on it anyway, and pumps but I figured the rest of my fuel system would be ok. Only thing I am using that is stock is the tank, it has dual 340s in the tank and upgraded bigger lines, fuel rails and Fore FPR.

I love e85 and meth so much I run them both. One of the best mods I did was switch to it and set up my fuel system for flex fuel.

These guys have several dyno tests and videos of different fuels

https://www.youtube.com/user/TheTuningSchool/videos

For them, E85 definitely seems to be a winner....but they do also mention in their videos that a E50...ie 50/50 mix seems to produce as much power as mixes with a higher ethanol content, so there isnt really much point in running as high as 85 ? ( although depends what you get at the pump anyway I suppose )

Talked to my shop and we are going with dual 450 pumps and ID1700s on E85. Shooting for 1000 -1100 at the wheels. Shop is pretty confident it will do at least 1000.

It for sure will. Mine makes 932 with plenty of room to go.

I'd run a true 160lb injector minimum on e85 if you want to make actual power

I've had the id1300s. You will be pressing to make a real 1k rwhp on e85 unless you jack the pressure

Especially when the 1700s are only a little more if you are set on ID

I'll be running ID1700s. My shop said that about as big as I can run on stock computer before running into idling and other tuning issues.

Yeah they will work nice with the stock ems and not have the corrosion issues of the Bosch 2000s

Pricewise just go with the ID1700s but either way you should be fine. I am running a triple pump setup though.
