We are impressed. You can tell by my spirited typing style. Nothing wrong with examining the issue from all angles. As you can plainly see (or maybe not), Im in agreement, I overfill mine as well.

I feel like this is a dumb question, but warm at idle with oil being sucked by the pump and returned back into the pan, is the oil level as read on the dipstick a reliable reading while the engine is running? Or is the oil level somehow getting disturbed/sloshed enough to make it appear maybe 1/4"-1/2" higher on the dipstick than actual, which might lead to someone adding an extra quart or two that then overfills the pan and frothing happens?

If no issues reading while warm and idling, then knowing where the "full" dipstick line is relative to the windage try should be fine for measuring how much oil level drop happens when the engine and cooler/lines etc are full of pressurized oil...?

That's an excellent question. We should try and report back with our findings. I think it may require a little more effort, say start with 5, reading, add 1, reading, etc and maybe find the point it becomes disturbed?

Accumulators are cheap enough that this shouldn't be an issue anymore. Its cheaper now than a turbo to add one to an engine; no more excuses.

My apologies if you thought that I was insinuating that 8qts would allow aeration. Contrary, if many lose oil pressure with 6qts, then wouldn't be surprised that testing will reveal that 8qts running leaves plenty of room before significant contact with rotating assembly becomes and issue at G forces.

Yes, oil accumulator not a bad idea and critical in certain applications.
