It looks to me though that the bumper blocks most of the airflow to the IC.
Which is an issue for these cars.

I guess you will know when you turn the boost up and make a 1/4 mile pass.

I had to trim the bumper filler panel a lot to fit a 3.5" thick core and it blocked airflow. Also blocks the radiator, so ended up lowering it down with a custom rad support to try and get more air to it and my rad.

If you move the latch forward an inch or so, then move the upper pin accordingly, you can notch the top of the intercooler and keep the stock parts.

This mount location I think gets the MOST airflow. If the intercooler is HIGHER, it only gets blocked by the lip of the hood.

This is how I had mine before. If I had a 3" thick core it wouldn't of had to trim hardly anything.

Yes these are some of the same pics I sent Ron after I finished the install of his support, and then he posted them on his Facebook page.

The internet is a small place!

Funny, I believe I had the same IC, and my orig trimming looked just like that.
Sadly, as I upped the boost, IAT's skyrocketed.
My car has had a pinned glass hood since 1997.

Here is where it is now with the new custom IC.

This dropped IAT's on the order of 60 degrees.

4" core.

Anyway, if you want to keep the stock hood latch, you sacrifice cooling. Unless you move the radiator way back.
I have Corvette accessories, shortest possible. But the crossover pipes need to go somewhere.
if you run the pass side Log manifold, prob no issue.

Ron

That looks badass. I like how that intercooler came out.

Very nice, and everything you said is true Ron!

You may have told me before, but what do you see for a temp. rise during a run on high boost?

I think I just came down with some OCD! Any way you can line up the intercooler with the rally stripe? Lol.

Ha! It would be easier to move the stripe!
at 24 psi on a 70 deg day I see 130 degrees at the finish line.
Prev it was 180+ at 21 psi.
So it helped.

BTW, you guys all have really nice Nova's

Ron

Another option to improve airflow is trimming out the license plate section on the bumper for those of you that don't need plates. Looks like Mello did that here.

I am still debating on an IC'er, I picked up a Procharger IC'er cheap, it is the 3 core sheet metal one, like a 27" x 6" x 3", they rate them at 825 HP- I ran one before on a 69 chevelle, I don't know if their core is more efficient than an overseas one or not-with the big bumper nova I have plenty of room, lol.

Yep I did, and I can still put my plate back on to cover the hack job lol.

You did a nice job on fitting that in. I'm sure it works well to a certain level of power. What type of IAT's are you seeing and at what boost level after a run or long pull?

Mine is cutout behind the license plate as well. I spaced the plate out 1/2” to at least get some airflow to the IC.
