Default Vic Jr. on 427@30psi?

Hey guys, Happy New Year.

I'm going to be doing a 427 Dart block behind a PT106 for my new build. I'm planning on running the TEA Trickflow 245's. As you all know, new builds will nickle and dime you to death. I don't want to have a new cold side fabricated, so I'd like to run the same Vic Jr. I've been using (same height). I know it's not the best intake for the kind of power I'd like to make, but do you think it will suffice?

Any ideas as to what I could/should use instead? I was thinking maybe just a super vic....

Thanks in advance!

I would want something with equal runners.

Super Vic is not the same height as a regular one. There are also a variety of elbows...so is height a limitation, or are you pretty open with that ?

What sort of rpm's ?

Lets face it....pretty much any intake is going to let you make a ton of power with that setup. So height will dictate options, as will budget. A cheap *** Holley Chinese fabricated intake will work just fine, or maybe one of their race versions DBrods seems to have had good success with.

Or there's that G1Pro guy who appeared then disappeared ( although he's still on some other LS related forums, presumably paying to be a sponsor on all the forums would add up to a substantial amount. ) who makes some outstanding looking intakes at quite reasonable prices.

Or a plain and simple HiRam if you have the room...or at slightly reduced height, one of the Shearer fabrications HiRam dual plenum versions.

Or down under, Shauns intakes or Plazmaman seem to be highly regarded

Although I think I'd prefer any of the large open plenum versions over any carb style intakes.

Nice. I appreciate it, Stevie.

I've been doing as much research as I can on building a motor of this magnitude. I think I'll probably just have to bite the bullet and have at least one of the cold side pipes redone. Worth it in the long run, I think.

I'm not planning on revving this thing to the moon. I'll be keeping it under 7k.

We ran a victor with TFS 245s back in the day to 40psi. Worked really well with a tall wilson elbow.

Glad to hear that. That's exactly the intake/elbow combo I have. The intake has been mildly worked. Was debating going a different route on my intake. But noticed the guys from up north used a Victor on the top sportsman truck at Vegas. So thought if it was good enough for them to go 7.1's it'd work just fine for me trying to run 5.30's in the 1/8. Not saying other intakes aren't better obviously. But sometimes the budget says no more.

No kidding....that's good to know. I may try to run over 30psi if I end up splurging on a Dominator. I was going to try to run the stock 411 ecm...my FIC 210's...race gas. Of course, it would only be good to 3 bar. I'll just have to see how much I can get for my current motor and trans.

Single plane is the ticket for boost.

5.20's here.

I would prefer an equal length runner intake with a large plenum volume, but this has been working fine.

That's similar to what I'm running now. Makes 30psi on the 385 with no trouble at all. I'm just worried about the increased airflow requirement of the larger motor. Obviously, there will be a lot more air flowing at the same boost.

I think I'm just going to order the long block and see what happens.
