I would send it. Dont touch a factory built motor

This is how I did mine. I soaked the pistons in the bore with mystery oil. I kept rotating assembly back and forth and cleaning it and re applying M oil until the rings didn't leave anything behind after rotation. Took a while. 2-3 weeks of soaking and coming back and rotating. Etc.. looking back, would've been much easier to take it apart, but I was Leary of messing something up. Cars been together for 2 yrs last year or so @14lbs boost with no issues (93 /meth)

i dont get why some guys are leery of opening a motor up

aint like its full of rabid weasels.

just put the **** back the same way it came out.

I usually do it in the bores with heads on or off. It works pretty good. Ive even loosened up seized up rings that were rusted to the cylinders. Soaked pistons and worked it back and forth for a few days. Worked great!

Never really took one a part after doing this. I know it works, because we had a single cylinder Honda fourwheeler we was working on. Had low compression and wouldn't start. It has sit up for a few yrs. Put some diesel on the piston and let it set a few days. Went back and had great compression. Ended up getting it running and off to the customer it went.

Spray lots of water/meth. Rings won't expand much if there is water in there. Both of them do a decent job of cleaning out ring lands.

Update I talked to another buddy at a shop and he said he'll tear it down Gap the Rings and reassemble it for 150 so I'll just do that

That's dirt cheap. Is he re-using the head gaskets? I would probably leave it than re-use those parts and have the job rushed.

It's just a shortblock I actually know this guy too he's an older guy but used to do a lot of drag racing
