Boost questions...

My LY6 with shaved heads is 10.7ish:1 comp....but a head swap would drop it to approximately 9.5:1. (IF needed)
I also know I'll need to swap cams since I'm on a 110 LSA/106 ICL.
I'm not looking for MAX power, just a 150-200 more FWHP
Not sure what way I will go but a SC looks the easiest right now (Procharger ?)
This is just a thinking out loud idea right now....unsure if the $$$ per HP will be worth it ?
Thoughts ???
Do you "need" to change cam ? maybe not.
Would a Procharger ( or Vortech or Paxton ) be easiest....very probably. But depends what accessory drive you have, what room you have for any blower, piping, intercooler etc.
And of course who makes a kit that might work for you.
IMO I'd bolt on the blower kit with your existing parts and see how it goes. If CR does prove too high for your setup/fuel/tuning then a head swap might be needed.
But as most can get away with 10psi or so on stock engines of similar CR, then you should be able to see a good increase in power without pulling the heads with a good tuner.
And a good blower will give you room to grow for the future.....they're almost always worth it lol
Do factor in whether the rest of your drivetrain etc will handle any extra power too.
Its a carbed LY6, so the tuner is me.
Pro built th350 to handle 800 or so I think he quoted.
12 bolt I built with 35 spline axles and a spool running 4.10's
I try to over build parts so I'm not doing it 2,3,4 times.
A head swap might not be a bad idea. You could get away with 6-8 PSI on 10.7. Roughly 35% power increase. You'll need a way to pull timing with boost.
But stock pistons have a habit of falling to bits very easily. That high CR will not be friendly in that respect ( assuming pump fuel of course but you do not mention what fuel )
Timing/fueling are everything, you need precise control over both to be safe.
If you can cope with the above then I'd still say bolt the blower on first. If something doesnt feel right then yes you might want to look to a head change or cam change.
Or you could do it all right from the outset but it would be more time/effort and money to do that when tey might work ok.
A buddy pulled his FITech set-up off his SBC to go with a LS swap using the stock EFI. I could maybe get it ???
This is all just thinking out loud at this point....I have a NOS Cheater kit pilled for a 150 shot and a little reluctant to use just yet...still need to add a few bars yet
