Default boostin the trans am

alright guys an gals im debating on turboing the trans am, downside its a 99 what would i have to do in order to make it hold the boost? i herd the rod bolts were crap so if i replace them will it be good to throw boost? and if i does how much power will it support?

anther option is going 5.3? which 5.3s would be good to look at? ive never build anything fi so all the infornation you guys could give me on these motors is appriated

Depending on how much power you want to make.....rod bolts are just the beginning....you might need a fully built engine.

So your question is how much with the stock bottom end. If just sticking with pump gas I'd try to keep it under 550 or so. That's just my preference

yeah just wondering what the max it will hold and if i replace the rod bolts will it make it stronger i can also either get the 4.8 or 5.3 and boost so and just throw the ls1 into somthing else just curious at what all these things will hold stock so i know which one to get and build up for now

I think the stock rod bolts come into play more with rpms than power

If you want big power move away from the ls1. Id do the 5.3 or a 6.0. Rod bolts wont help all yhat much on your ls1. The issue with boost is strenght of the rods. Plus ls1 goes for mint on the blacck market. Sell it off buy a 5.3 and have money left over to turbo. Just my opinion.

Mines a gen 3 5.3. Running 10lbs. Sbe. 799 heads with pac 1218 springs. Stock cam. Ls6 intake. 550whp. Runs like a champ. Wouldn’t worry about building motor. My 5.3 was $600. On3/cx racing turbo build was 3-4kish. Cheap! And reliable as long as u don’t get greedy with boost lol

I'm in the middle of the doing research for my 02 trans am twin turbo build. So far the kit I'm most interesting in is modularturbo I've heard good thing about it but I can seem to get a hold of them. I don't know if they are even still in business the last time they were active on this sight was 2014.

I'm not trying to highjack your tread. But I'm doing the same thing to the same car. There is no point starting a new one and make people answer the same things twice.

Find a decent L33, still have a aluminum block, good heads, and they will support ~700 if tuned correctly.
