It looks bad...certainly compared to new. But I guess without seeing what others look like it's hard to tell.
I've only been using this filter type/location for a couple of years so it hasnt seen any real use in the grand scheme of things.

The water issue was sort of self inflicted at the start of 2017, but it caused some insane amounts of trouble, creating all sorts of "stuff" in the system and also eating away the entire base of the alloy fuel cell before I figured out what was wrong.

But the filter was clean white when new, now it's very dark/grey and sort of bulging a little. Although not sure if that's to be expected when the media gets soaked with fuel ? I'd think not.

No, definitely shouldn't be bulging. You on E85? I see you said pump fuel.... but I consider E85 to be pump fuel.

If your car is a 6 speed, just take the vss and tie into the driver side wheel sensor. What I did when I hooked mine up was (to make sure I had the polarity right) was to set my phone up to see if the speedo moved as I was spinning the wheel.

My filters, left to right.

Removed early 2017, been bagged since so well dried out....only a couple of months on that one I think, but from when I had water issues. Although I do recall it looking much worse when i first pulled it out, so maybe middle one might change over time ?

Middle, removed now, April 2018. Still wet, been in car for a year.

Right, new filter.

And pump fuel is regular gasoline. No E85 here.

Those used filters don't look bad at all. I probably would have kept them in the game.

At the time with the work going on, it made sense to change them. Not exactly an expensive part in the grand scheme of things.
