Figured it would be good to go ahead and do some more preventive maintenance, as I just changed both pumps a couple weeks ago. Good thing I did, looking at the old filter.... I'm surprised the car even ran. Hard to blow through too. Stay on top of your fuel system guys!!
The element should be reusable,, is it paper or stainless? I clean our sprints filter in a ultrasonic..
It's paper. Not to interested in reusing, and there is one performance shop here in town that has filters, but it's more carburetor type stuff.... not enough filtering. His stuff was like 53 micron stuff.
Perhaps it really was plugged, but the max psi blowing from a human's mouth is about 5-7 psi. That's not much compared to gasoline from the fuel pump at 58 psi.
I just changed my filter recently too - samo samo -felt like it was plugged. I didn't try the air hose at 60 psi.
That said - IMO changing out a fuel filter should be done frequently considering the amount of money some of us have invested in our cars. So whether it needs it or NOT I still change it about every two years (about 5 k miles at most).

I uses the washable stainless, just cause I get tired of paying race markup on things that should be 2 bucks.. LOL
Fill my Ultrasonic with water, little bit of liquid dishwasher soap and let it run for a hour or two.. rinse with hot water, then rinse with WD40 and final rinse with methanol..
Of course this is on a mechanical fuel injection that has 3 filters/screens mostly to make it easy to take apart..

There was an extreme difference between the old and new filter, with the mouth test....I know... not very scientific.... but still.
What sort of mileage or timescales ? That's a pretty huge mess ?
Do they use the same filters as Aeromotive etc ? Aeromotive do a microglass filter now that they claim is fine for ethanol ?
Were you logging fuel pressure at all ?
I'm guessing 15kish and at least 3 years if not more, lost track of miles when I switched to the 400. Not sure if it's the same as those you mentioned, but yea.... nasty looking for sure. Nah, never logged pressure. But the car feels faster now on the gate, than it did all in before
That stuff looks like the same stuff that accumulates at the bottom of gasoline storage tanks. If you have ever had to measure the fuel level in a storage tank with a measuring stick you have probably seen it.
Recall it's due to the addition of olefins in the gasoline - a waxy substance.
Ethanol is a cleaner so it probably cleaned it out of your tank and deposited in your filter. Bet next time you won't see it when you replace the filter.
Went ahead and gave the car a full day of my time. After I changed the filter, went ahead and tied into the front wheel sensor and got my Speedo working..... dead accurate as well, checked it against my phone.
I pulled mine apart today. Filter only been in a year, 260gph paper Holley, pump fuel only.
Have to say I'm pretty shocked at the colour of it, will get pics tomorrow.
I did have issue prior to that from water in the fuel, but I did strip everything and clean it out.
I wasnt having any fuel supply problems, but it's all apart so figured made sense to take a look.
Good stuff, seems we get so caught up in the quest for more power.... better performance ... that we forget the simple things. Hopefully yours wasn't too bad.
