Reverse split turbo cam old news?
Going to try out a new lineup of cams I found. I bought the stage 2 already not know there are actually 4 stages of turbo cams they offer. The stage 2 is 226/230 113+4 .600/.575. But now I see they have a stage 4 cam that they advertise as being for a “T4 hotside with full exhaust”. The specs are 237/234 113+4 .625/.600. I’ve read that reverse split cams are old tech. But I’m wondering if it would help me since a T4 7875 is a small turbo for a 370. I’m only revving this motor to 6500rpm max, and this will be a street/strip. Mostly street car. Any thoughts?
I would love to see back to back dyno runs on a turbo set up to see the difference in power curves between the reverse split and normal split cams. I'd also love to see the difference between a single and a twin because the twins have less backpressure so could handle more overlap.
The Summit Pro Turbo cams all only have 2 degrees overlap - so that Stage 4 is not a 113 LSA + 4 advance - that is a typo on their website.... look at the actual specs and it is 117 LSA + 5. So all 4 will drive fine, the difference is in the power bands.
Given stock heads etc and only 9:1 and rpm range of 6500rpm - stick with the stage 2 IMO. Stage 3 would be maximum and cost you some bottom end. The Stage 4 will hurt you down low so badly I doubt it will make up for it on the top end over 1/4 mile. Stage 2 will DEFINITELY feel better and be way quicker on the street in normal driving. The stage 4 is for built engines that want to rpm to 7200, you will hate it.
