Default Reverse split turbo cam old news?

Setup is a iron 370 9:1 compression, stock 317 heads, BTR .660 dual springs, billet T4 7875, 80e, 3600 billet triple disk stall, 3” downpipe, victor jr with elbow, 9 inch with 3.25 gears, 28” tire.

Going to try out a new lineup of cams I found. I bought the stage 2 already not know there are actually 4 stages of turbo cams they offer. The stage 2 is 226/230 113+4 .600/.575. But now I see they have a stage 4 cam that they advertise as being for a “T4 hotside with full exhaust”. The specs are 237/234 113+4 .625/.600. I’ve read that reverse split cams are old tech. But I’m wondering if it would help me since a T4 7875 is a small turbo for a 370. I’m only revving this motor to 6500rpm max, and this will be a street/strip. Mostly street car. Any thoughts?

Not old tech, simply a different path that will produce similar power to the more popular cams but has potential to spool quicker and have more area down under where you can really use it most of the time. The longer exhaust duration cams do nothing for bottom end, but it does extend the rpm range and help top end. My 2 cents on the keyboard.

I would love to see back to back dyno runs on a turbo set up to see the difference in power curves between the reverse split and normal split cams. I'd also love to see the difference between a single and a twin because the twins have less backpressure so could handle more overlap.

The Summit Pro Turbo cams all only have 2 degrees overlap - so that Stage 4 is not a 113 LSA + 4 advance - that is a typo on their website.... look at the actual specs and it is 117 LSA + 5. So all 4 will drive fine, the difference is in the power bands.

Given stock heads etc and only 9:1 and rpm range of 6500rpm - stick with the stage 2 IMO. Stage 3 would be maximum and cost you some bottom end. The Stage 4 will hurt you down low so badly I doubt it will make up for it on the top end over 1/4 mile. Stage 2 will DEFINITELY feel better and be way quicker on the street in normal driving. The stage 4 is for built engines that want to rpm to 7200, you will hate it.

I’m glad I haven’t sold the stage 2 yet! I’ve been reading and researching to learn about cams and how different ones work but it’s all over my head! Thanks for clearing that up for me!

No worries :-) Had you said "mainly strip" then I'd say run stage 4 and add 4:1 gears and rev that thing to 7200. With that gearing and a 3600 stall It'd haul ***, but if you had 2 identical cars and one had what you have now with the stage 2 and the other had 4.1's and a stage 4 - I know which car you would drive 9/10 times for fun. The one you already have ;-)
