Default Griptech

Worth it or no?

I currently do not have belt slip issues with a 4” procharger pulley, but I’m looking at going with a 3.85” pulley.

Always heard good things, but some say it eats belts. Are you an auto tensioner? If so, you probably don't need it.

People have brought me numerous griptech pullys to install and honestly I want to throw them in the trash half the time. They are marketed to solve the belt slip problem but in reality you need to solve the belt slip problem first or the griptech coating can make it worse. It does create some belt dust and if you continue to let it slip I've seen them glaze over. It seems to put more heat in the belt which makes sense as its in effect sanding the belt when slipping and sandpaper mucks up and becomes dull. So if you want to run one then put a real tensioner on your setup so the belt won't slip and pulley it for the boost you desire.

At the end of the day the quick and often cheaper solution is to put their existing pulley in the mill and crosscut it as the teeth you create don't get mucked up and glazed over like the griptech sandpaper coating. Crosscut also creates some dust but at least it doesn't glaze over. On the same pulley size and tensioner I've gained boost with the crosscut that didn't just fade away over time like the griptech.

Really the proper solution is to go turbo, but for some reason I haven't convinced everyone of that yet!

Here is the GTO bracket and tensioner. It seems to work very well and I currently don't have any belt slip. I was just curious if the griptech was worth the additional cost since I'm going to be buying a smaller pulley anyway. The only issue I've heard of with the GTO procharger setup is the bracket flexing which then does cause belt slip. I've seen that more with the larger blowers though and that was fixed by installing a support from the blower to the top of the mount where it attaches to the cylinder head.
