Not aware of any issues with gasket bore size on iron block. I wouldn't use them on an alum block since fire ring on edge of sleeve and block. Theory/thought - The larger bore fire ring is closer to head bolt circle providing more stable clamping force and cylinder seal under higher boost (>20 - 25psi). No data to prove theory.

ive been running ls9 gaskets on a 3.908 bore l33 block for a couple years now at 700whp with no issue. We have a couple blown big blocks running 50-54# of boost, and we were having headgasket issues running a bigger dia headgasket. No other changes other than Shrinking the dia of the head gasket bore and that problem went away, so I try and run as close to correct center as I can. Obviously the ls9 work, for people making a lot more power than me. The idea of more meat around each cylinder is appealing to me, but your theory is interesting also.
