Default Thoughts on Straub/Yates headgaskets?

Curious what you guys think about these new gaskets and the the claims associated with them. I asked a few times for a power difference number and just kept getting (it increased test engine rpm 600rpm”. Thinking about replacing my ls9 for a set of these.

I cant say yeah or nay for sure but it seems like a reasonable claim that gm would do that to lower emmisions/better fuel economy. Yates is a leader in badass circle track engines and heads. If anyone was gonna figure it out they would. Big budget opens up testing crazier ideas and finding **** no back yard boy would think of cause they are to afraid to push it and hurt there only engine. Just my opinion. Maybe a set of these will find its way on my engine when i put it back together.

But i still cant get my common sense around how cooling passage mods increase rpm range. But im far from understanding everything that is out there so who knows.

Notice the 7 holes next to the outside head bolts. Any reason you can't drill those in the LS9 gaskets to increase flow?

The extra holes help with cooling the back of the chambers which cuts down on pre ignition. It works and i have been modding gaskets like this since 2013. Kurt urban shared the trick with me.

My thoughts, but at $59 a pop might as well just get the Yates gaskets if buying new.

I don't think it was shared in public, It was something we talked about in a PM on the bullet. I drilled holes in my torque plate so I can drill gaskets while they are clamped.

Well I’m trying to order a pair of these, but straubs website is absolutely useless. Guess I’ll have to call.

No kidding. I need those gaskets, and front and rear main seal kits. After an hour of trying to find anything, I gave up. The search feature doesn’t even pull up anything g if you type in ls1 or 5.3. No results found. Literally if any other company had those gaskets I’d be ordering them elsewhere.

How many layers in those gaskets? Order LS9s, do the quick mod, and keep rollin.

I know they work, but I’m not a big fan of the bore size of them on a small cubic inch application. I like that these are smaller

Dont run them . They're 99% going to be like the WS6 store gaskets... they do not hold . They're 3 layers . But thicker layers and have problems with boost and even n/a... had 4 buddies including me that have tried to run them and have a failure .

If you want holes, just buy an LS9 gasket and punch the holes in them ?
