I think that for the money a turbo LS would be easier and sound better. Why would want to sound like a japanese car or a Grand National? V8's only for me.

I'm ok with it. Done right, you could make more power than maybe 80% of the Turbo LS swaps out there.

I was going to build a Shelby Cobra kit car with a 4 cyl Shelby (dodge) Turbo engine that would put out 600 RWHP, but was't looking forward to dealing with the haters.

There is alot of value in opening the hood and watching the jaws drop.

Trust me...I get a ton of comments having a LS engine in my Cobra. The funny thing is though, it starts every time, puts out a lot of HP, gets decent gas mileage, is easy to find parts for, and runs on premium. Half the Cobras out there are lucky they can meet 2 of those.

If all I wanted was 800 RWHP, you are probably right. However I want to make over 1,000 RWHP and want it reliable at that level. To do that with an LS will require either an LSX or Dart block with a 6 bolt head design, otherwise you'll push water and then you're actually talking a LOT more than I will in this 2JZ setup. Personally I love the sound of the boost in a 2J, but I agree there will.be something that doesn't belong when I go to turn the key in my Z28 and it makes Supra noises! Ha! But it's so wrong, that it's right to me if that makes sense.

The “norm” is easier, most has been already pioneered and parts or parts lists are easy to come by. I give you credit for going at it with the 2JZ, but I’m a fan of Comp Eliminator lol. I’ve always liked the off the wall stuff.

Plenty of people have made over 1000 rwhp with 4 bolt ls motors even through auto trans. Since you have a manual it would take even less. Friend of mine didn’t have trouble pushing water with an iron 6.0 block until near 1400 rwhp through a power glide, 9”, and irs. That was also with a centri losing power driving the blower.

Im curious what the response would be on a Supra forum if you were building an LS and used the same thread title...lol. This is after all LS1tech not 2jz tech...lol

Not saying you can't do it. I also have a friend over 1200 at the tires with an LQ4 6.0. But you're not gonna take it to that level on a regular basis and not push water over time.

I'm building this for reliability and not looking to run into issues pushing that level on a 4 bolt head design of the LS. Besides, I like the 2JZ platform a lot.

I realize I am posting this here, and it's also why I gave it the title I did. But like me, other people like seeing different things done to these cars, so I thought I would share my build.

Eh do it. I swapped in a 521cuin BBF into my 87 TA and the jaws dropped when I opened the hood. Not to many haters believe it or not, most thought it was pontiac motor at first bc the distributer is in the front. But when you see a 521BBF which is MASSIVE sitting inside and filling a engine bay you can't really complain. I pulled it and went LS bc it like premium gas and drank a lot of it even with EFI.

Just because it wouldn’t be my choice doesn’t mean I hate you either...lol. I think most of us know what the 2jz is capable of so you can’t argue with results.

I live in redneck country and the only Supra I ran into wouldn’t race under any realistic terms. I was a 408 with nitrous auto car and our local track is 1/8th mile so obviously I wanted to race there. He refused to race there so after a while I agreed to race in Mexico 1/4 mile from a dig. Originally he agreed then changed to roll racing only. I said ok 30-120 mph he said no 60-160 mph. I wouldn’t do that. So basically he kept moving the goal posts until I would t run under the terms so I was the one that backed out...lol.

Good luck with it man.

My best friend had a baby in '99...... she got married last month. Seems just the other day she was crawling around floor, still wearing Pampers.

That's my buddy Matt's car. While it's certainly a badass ride and is quick, it's never been close to the 4's in the 1/8th. A lot of our friends' cars are quite a bit faster than the 2JZ Capri has been.
