I <3 c6 Z06s. Would have bought 1 if I hadn't bought the new DD. I still see a c6 in my future at some point. The Fbody has just been too practical and fun and relatively cheap to play with.

I've always been torn because for Z06 money you could do an ls2 or ls3 and a turbo.....but Z06 is the Z...0...6.

I know. But I do not want a standard. No matter what. And the z06 is lacking sound deadening and possibly? The heat shields. I was told they get hot on the floor boards especially after a decent drive. I was gonna just get an ls3 and turbo it. Maybe a small cam and a stall. But turbo would be first.

I've had it bad for the C6Z the second it debuted. To this very day, it still isn't dated looking. I just couldn't afford 70k for a car, but now they can be had for 26-30k. Only thing is, when you buy one, you must immediately pull the heads unfortunately.

Naw you pull the whole engine and drop in a 5.3! Sell that LS7 junk to some crackhead and enjoy a turbo 5.3 in a lightweight car.

The Z06 will remain stock, should I go through with getting one. As far as power adders go, turbo will always be king, in my book. But I'm done with that (the go fast game). And another thing, the LS7 is a work of art, most powerful NA motor ever made (from GM), titanium rodded, dry sump. It's also sexy sounding, hearing a 7.0 screaming @ 7000+.

If I had to keep it stock I’d never buy one, they are kinda turds stock. Car needs lots of mods to feel
proper and not all are engine, a lot are suspension, drivetrain and interior.

LS7 is cool but even a max effort build doesn’t keep me entertained for a mile. 600-650hp is cool, but its not make me get off the couch and go for a drive just because cool. Really has nothing to do with the go fast game in relation to others as much as it has to do with being fun to drive to me. As you know an NA car just doesn't have the pull a turbo car does. But hey if thats what you want and makes you happy so be it, have fun with it, I think you’ll certainly enjoy it more then an fbody. And all that said I haven't found a vehicle on earth I’d keep stock lol

My next door neighbor had a burnt orange c6 z06. We used to go trolling for highway racers who had radar detectors on their windshields or dash. Right after they hit the gas, he would key a radar gun just to freak them out. It was really easy to get people to try to run that car when they first came out. Everybody wanted to see what they could do.

The titanium rods are a gift and curse. Yes they are lightweight and strong, but once the coating starts to wear prepare for an expensive fix. An LS7 is far from a reliable motor. Luckily, I sold mine before anything happened to it.

So true between valve issues, thin cylinder walls, rod issues, just not worth dealing with to me. I would almost argue the grand sport is a better platform to mod, looks just as good and often a bit cheaper to buy but can make more reliable power with stock engine.

I agree the steel frame is the way to go if you are planning a cage and all that jazz. The price for a cage on the aluminum frame Z06/ZR1 jumps up significantly.

So I just got done researching this rod issue that you mentioned, I admit, it was brand new to me. That's kinda the last straw, looks like I may be looking at a C5Z now.

Put a roots/twin screw on it. No hot side to worry about or turbo failing, nice small packaging and instaboost.

Didn't mean to scare you off but its definitely something you should be aware of. Nothing wrong with the C5z.

The C6Z was already on the bubble with the head issue. But when I found out I have to also worry about the rods flaking, which can wreck everything from the lifters down....it then became a hard pass. I dug around on the vette forum, and it seems to be a fairly common problem. And those 427s aren't like the 5.3, find em on every corner for $500, more like 10 stacks.... and you still have the same issues. Nah, I'm good.

Thats why you sell it! Then your into a 5.3 swapped C6Z for like $20k.

Lol, who wants an anemic 5.3 instead of a 427?? Remember, just looking for a stock driver, not boosting it. If I do all that, then I might as well keep the SS.
