Got the wastegate sorted out, i had messed up the assembly of it not surprisingly seeing as how everything else has been going. First time even touching a turbo or wastegate so i guess its to be expected. Now she holds 4.1 psi to redline its awesome Its definitely faster than my mostly stock ls2 c6, from a roll. This may come as a surprise but 195's dont exactly equal grip. Anywho iv been cruising the car and everything seems pretty good just having a transmission issue, well i think its transmission. When I full throttle from a stop the car goes like normal till about 2800-3000 then it feels like it goes to shift. drops about 300 rpm then figures its self out and continues to rev like normal. I have the torque converter only locking up in 4th, and my data log shows it was off. Data log also shows im in first gear the entire pull. Not sure what to look at here but im doing lots of reading and whatnot. its a stock converter and stock 4l80e with the hd2 kit i drilled the shifts on the more firm/large end. heres a picture of the log and also a few random ones I haven't loaded yet.
Heres the data log i could only take a picture sorry, ill get an actual screen cap later. purple is tps, redish orange is my rpm and you can see it build then drop then build. Light blue is mph, and yellow is gear, its holding first the entire time and i dont think im breaking loose it feels exactly like a downshift.

can you overlay boost with that? the stock converter might just be pulling you below boost threshold rpm

A 78 Regal blowing the tires off on Dayton wires. How cool is that?!

Did more driving today and I Have my data logs i can post. Did some pulls from a stand still and the car is just being weird with first gear. If i roll about 15 in 2nd and pin it she drops down to first and everythings fine takes off like a 4 psi rocketship. I dont know the exact gear ratio in the rear end but I input 2.70,2.55 and 3.05. Still acts like its trying to shift at 100%tps at like 3000 rpm. car lurches forward then bucks back and usually smooths out. Other than the shifting issue im loving the car. Creates an epic smoke show on the 195's, but has some serious wheel hop till the wheelspeed gets up there. Also it easily laid 100ft strip of rubber down my local roads... Okay idk how to get my logs posted when i try to attack it says not supported file type. I pulled up boost on my datalog and im showing .5lbs at the rpm dip and its supper linear not showing anything weird i think.

yeah might just be the stock converter with low numerical gears making that happen. keep your eyes peeled for a GN 8.5 rear

took the car out and did one fat A** burnout for some of my friends and good lord this car has some serious wheelhop. Probably just going to ignore it and wait till i get the 8.8 in. Still having a bear of a time with this 1st gear full throttle issue. maybe it is a torque converter issue or maybe i did something wrong installing the hd2 kit, but all the gears shift great, nice and firm. Big thanks to ronSSnova for giving me some advice. Hopefully get this pig sorted out soon.

Careful with the wheel hop. Speaking from experience, lol. Bent both rear shocks, broke a u-joint, cracked the thermostat housing and killed instrument cluster in about 1.5 seconds. Drag strip crew was none to happy with the coolant on the track.

Dang that’s an impressive amount of damage! Luckily the car only wheelhops doing a standing burnout and I don’t ever do that but in all reality I’m taking it easy till I can put an 8.8 in.

Very cool build, it's only going to get better! Here's some motivation for you. Ran this combo for three years, the motor is still good. 3400 race weight. 4.8, 78/75, 4l80e, BTR STG 2 Cam, Springs, 18psi, the altitude that day was like 3500ft. And yes, my light sucked, don't watch your boost gauge!

So I went ahead and got some better tires on the rear of the regal and welded the rear end. Still having my weird transmission issues and it’s definitely not losing traction like we were thinking. I remember when doing the hd2 install on the 4l80e that the actuator feed limit filter was cracked on the bottom. I’m reading that fluid leaking in this area can cause some weird issues. I can’t find one for sale anywhere

sonnax 3499417k is the part number for that filter.

ive never experienced it, but have read sometimes the bore wears out and people have to ream them oversize and use a special tool and valve kit from sonnax

Car has been on the road for a little while seems to be running super good. Stuck running just pump 91 on 8lbs but its pretty fun to me. Got the first gear issue solved, repaired my AFL filter and its like a whole new vehicle. I put my spare c5 wheels on the car and got some drag radials for the rear. trying out some Nexan nferas. For 160 a pop ill give it a shot. Got trick chassis 8.8 swap kit on the way seeing as i just picked this foxbody axle up, already 5 lug swapped. Unfortunently its 2.73's just like the car now. thought i was buying 3.05s Guess ill regear after i get it in. This is my first axle swap so well see how things go. In other news im selling my c6 corvette to fund a datsun build. going to ls swap with a t56 and another termx but thats future things i guess i should finish this car first

In the process of removing my rear axle, and I clearly need new shocks. Id like something double adjustable and not going to destroy my wallet like the 750 dollar afcos trz sells. I want to get into drag racing with this car now that it will have a solid rear end and some hopefully good radials. Im reusing the stock rear springs aswell, hopefully that works out but i can always swap those out later. Maybe the qa1's for like 220 a corner?

Viking DA's are nice for the money. About $400 for the rear pair for a G-body. UMI and MWC along with other places that deal with chassis setup sell them. I have the Vikings and really like them, my buddy put a set on his '01 Z28 and really likes them, my other friend has them on his turbo 6.0 S-15 truck project but it isn't running yet.

i forget the gear ratio / carrier breaks for ford but I'm pretty sure the common 3:73's will fit on most anything

google up ford 8.8 carrier on Ranger Station forums i bet they'll know

Well things are going good with the axle swap. Im just waiting on a lug adapter to put the chevy wheels on, for sure a temporary solution till i roast these new tires, and that shouldnt take long at all. ill do custom chevy pattern axles at a latter date when i regear it. This being my first axle swap you can safely bet that i just went ahead and welded my spring perches on test fit at full droop and thought this looks good, Well low and behold when I put the springs in and get it to ride height they are ready to explode right off the perch So I took it out again redid it all and now it sits perfect at ride height. I feel accomplished even tho this is im sure one of the easiest axle swaps ever it feels like it was made for this car. Heres my mistake, forgot to take a picture of everything now that its good. Serves me right for test fitting it wrong and then painting it all confidently haha.

In other news my flexfuel sensor is here and I have found the ONLY flex fuel station within like 20 miles of my house here in tucson. 2.60 a gallon for E when 91 (best we have) is 2.40 Not stoked on that but i guess E will be for special occasions and the drag strip

5 gallons of E Splashed in the tank with 5 gallons of 91 will really help with that Flex Sensor

Well today I scored comp engineering shocks new in box for 60 bucks for the pair, so 8.8 swap is all wrapped up just need to bleed brakes. My axle is from a fox body and it has drum brakes. I just got 10 inch drums from autozone and when I put everything on and the wheel my axle doesn’t rotate. Like at all, though I haven’t tried starting and putting it in gear. Am I doing something wrong here or do I just need to bleed the brakes/adjust the shoes? I can turn everything before I put the wheels on. With just the drum resting on I can hear slight shoe drag but I thought that’s how it should be. Thanks for the help
