Question about scavenge pump tank

Default Question about scavenge pump tank
Hey guys I have a question about the vent for a turbo scavenge pump tank - can the vent be on the side or does it have to be at the top? Currently it doesn't look like I have too much room to put it at the top. My ideology is that for the vent, I'm going to run a hose pointing upwards that's about 6 inches to a foot long so I thought it won't spill out if I run it from the side

Is this for a rear mount turbo or something? I'm not running a tank at all on my rear mount and no issues.

It's for a BMW with a bottom mount turbo. I just asked here because you guys are knowledgeable with scavenge pumps.

Assuming you've got a check valve you should be able to put it wherever you want, but top is best. Again, plenty of front mount people and many rear mounts use a scavenge pump with out a tank/reservoir.

I've read people say you don't need it and people say you do. I already have the materials so I might as well just make a tank and run it. I have all this free time anyway from the virus

Were you running a vent? I was under the car today and what seemed like a lot of room actually was quite small to fit a tank. I ordered a T-ftting and am going to run my vent on the top port just pointing up into the engine bay
