If the trans down shifts on it's own it's super easy to accidentally get on the limiter due to tire spin. It seems to help manage it to keep it off the limiter.
That makes way more sense. I thought I was going to have to give my title up. @truckdoug has the site thinking I was sacrificing chickens keeping a stock 4l60e alive.

the only thing I can say is my car, idling at 600-625 just does not like a .025 gapped br7ef plug. I could pull it out, GAP at .035 and the idle will not struggle near as bad. If I raise the idle to 750, it does better but at that rpm the cam sounds weird, the engine just sounds like it’s just idling too high and it used well over a gallon an hour of fuel at idle. Unacceptable traits to me. And then say I raise the idle to 750, it still does not fix my fuel trims being whack. I know exactly what was happening, it was loading up with fuel because the spark just wasn’t hot enough. No amount of tuning would fix that. I tried. I kept chasing my tail. You can see the difference in my trims in the above pics. The only change was spark plugs. I don’t feel like it was a bandaid fix. I feel like it’s just what my combo wanted. Every engine is different, you know that. Maybe my coils are weak? I dunno. Maybe I fucked the chambers up on the heads when I ported them. I didn’t change much except smoothed them out. Who knows. Maybe the dwell on my coils in the stock tune was too little. Maybe the fuel here where I live. Maybe the weather. The elevation. I don’t know, the only think I do know is ever since I tightened the gap up, I’ve had these issues and now a wider gap and a more efficient, same heat range plug appears to have fixed it. And I’m not sure why I keep defending my decision and explaining myself lol.

honestly if I didn’t care about
1) fuel mileage and idle fuel consumption
2) idle quality and rpm
3) if my trims were spot on
4) if my idle was vibratey (for lack of a better word) and not cam lumpy

this would be a non issue. Hell, it would be a non issue to most people, I’m not most people tho. I’d put money on if I bought the car to a tuner, he’d tune it just good enough and not care how much fuel it burned...because you know....hot rod. I hate tuning other people’s cars because I can’t do it “just good enough”. I have to pay attention to small details that irk me. A small dip in the idle while coming to a stop or a slight surge even if it only does it once when coming to a stop....will drive me crazy if I don’t fix it. Yes, I’m weird. I’m sorry not sorry.

Why did you have to tighten the plug gap?

You don't have to defend your decisions I don't care how you do things. I read a lot of your posts and laugh honestly. All of us that do our own tuning are picky about getting what we want. I'm just saying multiple people tune br7ef's to idle just fine even with narrow gaps like 0.022 and cams like mine with 8 degrees of overlap. As far as gallons per hour at idle I just LOL. I spend more time in boost than I do at idle I guess that's the life of living in a small town with a lot of open highways with small amounts of traffic. I have to hit stop and go driving on purpose just to test those things which I have no issue when I do.

Damn it...gallons per hour at idle that is going to be in my head the rest of the day. LOL...I'm honestly only giving you a hard time because what you want out of it is most important and I agree with that.

at 15psi? Really doubt that. It took 22psi for me to start blowing out spark. I was running B9EFS and idling at 1.05 Lambda with bosch 210 injectors.

I've switched spark plugs without touching the tune with zero issues and zero changes to idle quality. From TR6 to BR7. Even went from the B9 to B8 and absolutely nothing changed.

What method do you use to find ideal timing and fuel at idle? Is idle vacuum and IAC counts stable?

ummm, if you say so. only thing i can tell you is it was cutting out, tightened up the gap and it didnt do it anymore. If tightening up the gap didnt fix it, and i didnt make any other changes, then I dont know what to tell you. Its ok if you doubt it tho. I dont mind. I'm pretty sure you have the same exact combo as me so thats where its totally relevant.

I added timing until i didnt get anymore vacuum and backed it down some so the timing can still control it. Iac counts are 40ish in neutral and 50ish in drive. That doesnt have anything at all to do with my fuel trims (at idle and cruise and driving) constantly changing however.
