I think you would have been better off with two elbows, one rearward with a wastegate and one forward with a gate. It would give you two gates and better flow without the two flows stalling against each other. But that is just my opinion and opinions are like ******** right.

As I didn't want to buy another wastegate this seemed like the best way to utilize my existing JGS.

It did seem to want to boost run away when I was tuning over the last weekend, but I think that was due to a stiff spring and a stuck WG valve. (had sat idle all winter)

Related question, wastegate spring remains the same. Hotside changes from lazy 3in to much shorter 2in, along with downpipe going from 3in to 4in.

Would the same spring make the same boost? I would imagine I would now need less spring?

The spring will always open at the same psi. If you increased the volume of the hot side then it might take a bit longer to pressurize to the set wastegate psi because you have more gas to compress. But pressure is pressure regardless of volume.
