Stainless to aluminium exhaust?

Default Stainless to aluminium exhaust?

I was wanting to run a full exhaust on my car. Car is 70 nova with twin 6766pt turbos up front. I currently have my exhaust dumping out fenders. I was thinking stainless from turbo down to to were it straightens up under firewall them switch to aluminum back and up and over axle?The aluminium would start about 4 to 5 ft away from turbo exit. Would i have cracking issues? See any down side to this?

It might work if you use it after the muffler. They make aluminum race mufflers but not really any aluminum pipe for exhaust. Aluminum is pretty weak after 500degrees. Whether it cracks or not will largely depend on how well supported from hangers it all is. I have had some aluminum exhaust parts on motorcycles and racing snowmobiles that got insanely hot though without issues but they were all billet.

Folks have been doing it for years. 11 gauge for first foot or so then 14 or 16 gauge for the rest.

No need to run stainless, just go aluminum all the way.

I've had 11g aluminum off the turbo, didn't stand up in a true street environment

I now have 321ss back to the firewall and then 16ga aluminum all the way back to a magnaflow muffler it slip fits into.

All been great

i had aluminum full exhaust and it cracked at the turbos a few times. steel for the first foot or whatever should solve that. id also make sure its well supported.

Ever considered cutouts and a cheap crush bent 2.25" to the back with muffler of your choice? 1/4 the price and effort. Less weight than steel and 2 mufflers in most cases, and you get and OEM quiet car... or the ability to be wide open. I run the 4 cyl mustang cat back on my twin turbo 5.3.

Was $120 shipped and used the factory hangers and all. Most think its a 4cyl when I pull up. Then I have a 3" dump off each turbo on a VAC switch.

Race car is just a 2" pipe off a 4" down pipe with 4" cutout. Its quieter than most "street hot rods". I can talk on my phone or a passenger comfortably anyway.
