I used to just buy a gallon from the gas station for a couple bucks once a month and refill the reservoir while the pump is running.

10 PSI on a stock L33 is nothing. They've been ~40 PSI in a few cases. You're not stressing it at all.
right on, and it’s just stock stroke and bore... rods, pistons, bolts, and heads are not.

but basically same idea... I’ll look into meth... any kits to avoid?

With that CR and octane limit you'll need to be conservative on timing.

I run the living hell out of my stock L33.

This was on 93+washer fluid with a failed 44mm wastegate.
Pretty hard to determine where boost actually ended up, but I was a good 10 PSI after the 30 mark on my boost gauge. The 3 bar map sensor was topped.
No knock detected. The Deka 80s were at 70 PSI base pressure + boost reference and still at 171%. AFR was way lean.
I was too lazy to fix the gate, so I made some changes to fueling, pulled 1 degree of timing, and ran it that way for a few weeks.
On the setup I was running here, the car made 700+ HP and 800+ TQ at the wheels on the dyno at 17 PSI. I eventually settled at 26 PSI before upgrading turbo and intake manifold.
The engine looked pristine when I last tore it down. Zero signs of detonation in the pistons. No visible damage to anything.
Its going into my corvette behind my new quad turbo setup next year some time for even more abuse.

You're not going to hurt it on 10 PSI. It probably won't even realize its boosted lol.

There's no real reason why it shouldn't take 15psi quite safely if tuned by someone competent

Ultimately what pulley combo you will need to achieve that is another matter, and you'll likely try a few pulleys to get there.

But boost poses zero risk to the intake.

You will blow the crap out of it at 10 psi and straight 93 if it has too much timing in it. Even a forged motor won't live in a boosted engine on straight pump gas if it has too much timing. There's a long dead motor trail on this site from people who over-timed a boosted LS.

What is ring gap set at? Tight rings, high IATs and too much timing on 93 can be a recipe for disaster with any engine. 93 without water/meth, cautiously creep up on it with conservative timing (10 - 15psi). With enough 50/50 water/meth, likely another 10-15psi depending on how much heat the procharger is generating. Do you have an excellent tuner?

Yes, very experienced and meticulous tuner at the Dyno shop. He’s a horsepower head but absolutely smart enough to be conservative... aka he’s damn good lol.

Any reason you don't want to spray some meth on it?

I don't know how you guys manage to run 14+ psi on pump 93 , I could only manage 9-10 lbs max 14* of timing before I could hear audible knock . LC9 5.3 stock compression 10:1? Had to spray water meth to get anything over that. Even with water meth some days I can hear some knock in the mid range right when the boost hits hard at about 16-17 lbs then it goes away in a split second. Made the timing super soft in that area to try and fix it . Either I suck at tuning or the pump gas does .

You realize people all over the country blow their stuff up from tuning themselves, right? Either you know how to tune, in which case you know how much boost you can run and this thread is moot, or you don't know how to tune and make a thread asking how much boost to run and people are trying to help you.

Something I dont see talked about much is the weight of the veh. Seems to me a lighter car could tolerate more boost, or timing than a heavier car. Same with gear ratios.

lots of people are dead scared of timing too. i know some guys local running like 10psi and 12° and afraid to turn it up. i guess they dont ever hurt anything.

The plugs don't lie. I would venture to say more people blow up a boosted motor from over timing than from something else.

I'm really confused. One post says you are tuning it and another a very good tuner from a shop? If you are having someone tune it you need to be having this conversation with them and choosing pulley size accordingly, or bringing multiple pulleys with you to tuning session.

If you are tuning it yourself....don't...and hire a good tuner. Fueling is going to be your limit with this combo, not boost. So trying to decide what boost to run is irrelevant. You will run whatever the 93 will allow, then probably back it down some to be safe.

Hence why I listed my compression ratio and octane
I am running to see if anybody had any insight/experience on what a good boost level would be.

Trying to get an initial pulley set up... pretty straightforward... and running whatever the 93 will allow and then backing it down is “figuring out what boost to run” verbatim .... so the contradiction is strange.

And thanks for the tuning “tips”

I was thinking 10psi.
Will my LS6 intake and 9.9 CR handle this?

Easily.

Well... ? Lack of ring gap is the simplest way to pop a ring land. Remember - CC temp and pressure will expose the limits of your fuel and/or your setup.

I think many comments are coming from turbo back grounds where you dial in a low boost # and then up the boost slowly watching plugs. Can't really do that with a blower. 10lbs setup is "safe" IMO assuming you have the timing dialed way back. Then bump timing up slowly watching plugs.

If you "pulley it" to 10psi it won't make that amount until past PK TQ and well into the upper RPM in most cases. I think you'd be fine.

For the cost VS performance... There's zero reason to not run a little washer fluid injection kit. You can piece one together for under $100 if you research a little. Think of it as upping your octane level 2-3points for peanuts... Its a very worthwhile addition to any boosted car IMO. YOu don't need to spend $500+ on the premade kits. It's a pump, a nozzle, a boost switch, and a reservoir. (use your existing washer fluid reservoir) . 7gph or so it a good start for nozzle size if using washer fluid. 10gph for 50/50.
