Default Recommend a 6.0 donor...

Hey fellas,

I'm new to the turbo LS scene and have been searching the forums here for some time now. I can't find the answer to the "it" 6.0.

I'm building another street rod and would like to go TT 6.0 for this one. I say TT for aesthetics purposes mainly. I say 6.0 because there seems to be a ton of 5.3's running around, so I'd like to be a little different. The goal is a reliable street car, 750whp, pump gas, no meth if possible. I would like to keep this as budget minded as possible because my goals seems to be easily attainable with the right combination. I plan on a 4l80 and a terminator x kit to run everything. I currently do not have a donor motor. So any option is open. Most donors seem to be all about in the same price range, $1k-$3k.

Which 6.0 should I source that would allow me to inspect the SBE, springs and light head work/ls9 gaskets, cam, swap the truck intake out, add a TT setup and achieve my goals, reliably.

Currently leaning LY6 under 100k miles.

I'm new to this forum, but not the internet. The roasting is expected. Have at it.

Gen 3 LQ9s are all good for boost. LQ4 from mid 04 up are fine too.
All gen 4 6.0s are great, but you may have to deal with either VVT or DoD.

Get a LY6 The rect. port heads flow alot. A turbo will just make whatever it does NA, even better. LY6s, come in HD Chevrolet/GMC I'd rather have the hassle of deleting VVT and having alot better head AND better floating rods.

The L96 that came in everything after the LY6 (2011+ iirc) is great as well. Good heads, and rotating assembly. VVT but you’re doing a cam and all that anyways. In my experience they’re a little more common than the LY6.

Externally they all look the same, not sure how a 6.0 is "different"? What they are is 2-3x the cost as a 5.3. Which is why people use the 5.3. Any of the LS family will meet your goals. Even a 4.8. IMO, for 750WHP, I'd stick to gen4 stuff. Basically 2005 and up. pair of 61/65 china turbos from VS racing would be well suited and economical.

That said 6.0's are great! With similar mild cams they make 30-40hp more 300-400rpm sooner than a 5.3. Just not needed IMO.
