Default "budget" 80E converters for boost

Time to start thinking about a converter, was looking at the Jegs one that has a billet cover, its in the $500+ range. Curious if anyone has tried these, or another cheap one. Its a street car, lighter weight, but I do want the billet cover. I know, you get what you pay for, lol.

I thought Jake's was going to start offering one from what Happel said I thought. I haven't looked into it, as I already have a circle d.
Honestly I've tried a Yank, Circle D, and a PTC. I personally like the PTC the best. I've used budget converters in the past, and to me, it's now become one of the parts, I just won't skimp on. When I can literally feel the difference in the seat of the pants, it's something I just can't go back on. I know and understand everyone has to pick their poison, and not everyone can or wants a 1k converter.

Total Transmission Chicago makes a budget 4L80e converter that is under $500. My Nova went 10s with one, maybe 9s (I don't remember when it was swapped to circle D).

I was able to purchase one from them. Not installed yet but have great reviews. Spoke with them and were solid to chat with.

how much power are you gonna jam through it? are you hunting an ET /dyno number, or are you just trying get to boost threshold quickly and cheaply? I have a TTC converter in my turbo work truck and it's fine for rippin burnouts, hauling motors, milling machines and DOM. It would NOT shine with sticky tire at the track or on a dyno.

in my drag 80e's, jakes always nails it. i see no reason to not keep giving him money.

I am at this point in my build too and got in touch with Jake's as I bought one of their budget 80E converters a few years ago and liked it. They said that unfortunately they're no longer offering the budget $600 units, but do still have the single disc billet for $900 (6-8 week lead time). Circle D hooked me up with one of their 3000-3200 units. Once I get it all together next month I'll report back on how I like it.

I just love how you actually use your ****. Too often I see these types of trucks cruising past the local ice cream shop doing 4mph

I am also using this converter. In the past 12 months or so I had a PTC, a Yank and this Circle D. The PTC is more pricey, but by seat of the pants, hands down couples better mid rpm to probably 4800-5000. I somehow got a Circle D converter that had "something" wrong. It made a weird noise. They took excellent care of me. It is IMO the best converter out there for the $.
