Default Safe boost levels

Hi guys,
I have a 30K mile LY6 and I was considering a LSA sc. What is the boost I should be able to put through this until I need to open up the rings? Safe boost levels

thanks,
Jim

No way of knowing without knowing what your gaps are at. A lot will have to do with the tune and amount of heat in the cylinder. That's not many miles, they are likely still pretty tight. I'd go turbo over the SC. Easier to intercool, make more power per pound, and cheaper. Bigger bang for your buck all around.

As a drastic over simplification, stock LS motors with stock gaps are typically fine to the 600whp level as long as tuning is good. Whatever boost it takes to get there is setup dependent but usually somewhere in the 8-12 psi range from a turbo/blower.

Depends on the fuel as well. E85 is considerably more forgiving of tight ring gaps.

The stock pistons are good enough for 600RWHP? I’m surprised. I just need to decide if I really want to boost it with that low of miles. I don’t really want to open it up more than just putting in LS3 intake valves.

thanks guys

they'll live a long time at 600whp if the tune is conservative and you don't use crap fuel. If you're already pulling the heads it's not a big deal to open the ring gap. Then your safe range is several hundred whp higher than 600 lol.
