Nitrous plate with Blow thru carb?

Default Nitrous plate with Blow thru carb?

Just finishing up my first turbo setup. 5.7 with VS Billet 7875 & Pro Systems 750 card. Still have a nitrous plate under carb. Would it be ok to put some 125-150 shot pills in & spray it with turbo or am I gonna blow it up? Anybody tried this?

More info on this 5.7 is needed...

I don't feel like it is smart on a SBE LS1.

It’s a 2000 aluminum 5.7 Comp 238/246 600/610 112+2 w springs pushrods & timing chain upgrades. 80k 3800 Convertor th400 3:73 12 bolt w 275/60/15 Drag radials. Haven’t fired it since turbo but decided to redo roll bar & notch & anti roll bar frame since mostly qaurantined. G body 3050 w iron sbc aluminum heads. MSD 6014 truck manifolds to a MonkeyFab 2 1/4 to T4. Just still had old plate system and wondered? I saw Sloppy Mechanics had a 50 shot on an injected LS.

LS1 block, and Gen3 rods... I am thinking you will be ok with either, but not both.

Maybe if your converter stalled past peak torque...

Maybe I’ll take plate off, it’ll give me a 1/2 inch more clearance since it already gonna stick out the hood.

I have run 150hp wet shot with my LSX376 and an s480 turbo. I basically had the turbo maxed out so I would use the 125 shot on the top end if I was losing or if I just wanted to make a statement. Never had any issue with it. I dont see any reason why you couldn't run a plate on yours. Then again I dont have a ton of experience with the ls1 and I've read on this and a few other forums it isnt as strong as the later lsxs. I just don't know on that aspect.

When I had a blowthru, I ran a 50 shot from a plate with a Procharger, seemed to work OK.

Thanks for the info maybe I’ll give a little shot in high gear just to see how it feels! Got a Gen 4 5.3 with ported 799s will spay that some since they’re said to be a lot stronger.

Of course you can! Taller the carb spacers the better with blow thru in general. I'd leave it on. Could also convert it to spray methanol.

Running race gas or E85? The lack of intercooler could be a problem if not. I'd consider some water/meth inj pre-turbo if you don't run an IC. It will pull heat form the CC and a simple setup is dirt cheap.

I'd also consider dropping the jetting down to a 50 to start. Then only spraying from 6 to 7k or so. The issue is the giant cylinder pressure spike at the initial hit w/ nitrous. You really don't want that to activate near PK TQ (esp the 150shot). That's what tends to bend the gen3 rods and crush the ring land's. You also get more bang for your buck spraying N20 pre turbo. May pick up an additional 10-20whp just changing the location. Also while the nitrous does cool the air charge and make more power, it also adds oxygen to the CC. So regardless of the cooler charge temps it will burn hotter in the cylinder and make the engine more likely to detonate.

See that massive initial spike around 4800 where they spray this 4.8 with a 125? That's super hard on a gen3 rod... Esp if your already in boost and making good power.

Why would you spray N2O pre turbo? Surely you want the cooling benefits to stack up. So carb cooling and then use the N2O to really get intake temps down.

Could see some meth pre turbo helping. But from a cooling standpoint you want the N2O at the end of the list.

Been hoping for your opinion on this. Pump gas for sure with race has mixed if racing. Going back with new fuel lines & regulator, no E85 tho there’s plenty near me, new carb build so too late to do E85. Giant spike with 150 shot I see. Just not sure how to plumb nitrous pre turbo? Could run meth but do you just spray it into turbo fins? Thanks to all for a lot better idea now. If I use plate to spray meth would it need any particular size jet?

When a turbo compresses air it super heats it. Spraying pre-turbo basically shifts the compressor map in your favor. It makes the turbo more efficient. Same with pre turbo meth inj. At the same WG setting you may see an additional pound or even 2 spraying pre turbo. This means at X sustained exh pressure you are able to make more boost now. This will make more power than a few degrees off the charge temp. alone.

I had my EFI system add the fuel for my pre turbo N20 setup and simply added an AN fitting to the intake pipe pre turbo. You would need to add a fogger nozzle to the intake tract in some way to get the fuel fogged in there too. May be more trouble than its worth with your setup since you already have the plate.

I'd worry about overall charge temp and detonation without decent gas or a healthy amount of water/meth or straight meth. I'd avoid the nitrous unless I had the good gas in as well.

Yes, you'd use the SS N20 pills to jet the meth if you used the plate for meth inj. You would need to know the system pressure, then the nozzle orifice size to help guess what size jet you'd need. It would take some math and research. Would need a fuel solenoid rated for meth as well.

Yeah that’s too much math and buying SS pills even tho I have a lot of solenoids from different kits the idea to spray in high gear at 6k like a scramble might be best. I could get some 50 shot pills to try but then I might need another fuel pump just for that.
