Well that is more good news. MAy forgo the mounts just to see what happens. Worst case I'm out $140 and well brace the next pair. The setups I worked were all single setups with rigid mounted turbos and flex sections in the hotsides. (not slip joints). They cracked at the collector and welding that stuff proved unpleasant at best. It was thing and the back side is dirty. But yes, they have been welded and repaired a few times.

My turbo will move 3/8 of an inch from cold to hot when floated
If some actually did the math on how much stainless will grow with say a thousand degree delta they might understand

You're making us all amount I just caution not making it crazy rigid... Support some weight but let it flex

Every everybody like oh it's fine I don't have any problems then they wonder why their vbands aren't perfectly aligned when they go to hook them back up

Get get the pry bar out

I think most people at least consider pipe expansion, not only the rate of expansion of the pipe itself but also when making supports out of dissimilar metals, as they have different rates of expansion. I'm guessing you must have about two feet of pipe on your hotside? According to engineering toolbox ~24" of steel pipe expands ~.36" at 1000 degrees (assuming you started when it was freezing). Which is good because a slip joint with 1.25 inch of movement (burns double slips have over 2") is more than enough to cover the typical hotside pipe expansion. Besides scene points, its the same reason to use Vanjen clamps on aluminum (which I'm sure you know has a higher expansion rate than steel) as they allow misalignment and deflection. Frame mounted turbo cars that do two drag weeks a year and seasons of racing dont have failures with slip joints, I would think a guy that keeps builds together for fairly short durations will be just fine.
