Stock 4l80 / LY6 w/ LSA ?’s
A Shift Kit that firms up your shifts and gives more line pressure may be a decent middle-ground to tearing down the transmission and spending $2000 on a rebuild.

This shift kit doesn't come with a filter, because filters are specific to your pan type.

They come standard with a heavy duty drum and 34 element sprag but I think with used transmissions you're rolling the dice regardless....
I was having my TH400 built and talked him into letting my builder check it out before install and good thing he did.
My builder found all kinds of stuff wrong, dry clutches, torn seals that wouldn't hold air, dirt in the valve-body etc.
So in the end he ended up spending another $1,200 to have it done right.
I'd suggest you pay as much as you'd be willing if you were intending to have it rebuilt anyways.
This guy on youtube seems to know his stuff, and when he breaks it down why his rebuild costs $2000 he proves that it has at least $1000 in parts in the transmission. The "$999" "rebuilt" transmissions are a joke.
Also, this guys shop, Precision Transmission, doesn't do carry-outs anymore, his shop installs the transmission and confirms that it is working correctly. People do the install wrong and burn up a good transmission instantly, and he got tired of people blaming him.

Or if you can find one in a running donor vehicle you can test but even then I'd still wanna have it refreshed.
Lots of guys around here making 700-800whp through basic built 4L80E's.
I do a little research on rebuild kits too because if you aren't careful you'll end up close to the cost of a Jakes unit if you pay too much for the core.
im still researching this now locally. A friend from here is letting me know when he finds stuff too
thanks gu

Ly6/ Whipple 2.9 @14lbs I payed $2700 from kegs but I think they have gone up . Not sure where u guys are from but on east coast 1k used is the norm . If you look , sometimes remans are available thru the bone yard
Some poor dude put in a reman , then totals the truck . But any decent 4l80 with a shift kit will be fine .
