Default 6.0L vs 6.2L For Boost?

Hi,

I've got a friend building 1969 C10. He wants to do an LS swap and add boost. I run an LQ4 w/ a 7875 making great power. Do I suggest him run an LQ4 as well (if we can find one..) or go with a newer-ish 6.2L ? Or is the lower compression on the LQ4 way better for boosted?

He wants to make 600hp-800hp

Thanks!

I'd stick with an iron 6.0 and crank it up!

Either would easily meet those goals.

I prefer Aluminum for the weight personally.

If $ doesn't matter, I'd go 6.2. AL, easier to hit the power goals, etc.

From what I have seen, the 6.2's, seem to have a problem with the pistons taking a ****, and blowing up. I'm not positive, but I believe it's a tune issue that GM has going on, but I certainly haven't seen that issue nearly as often in a 6.0. JMO

6.0 to 6.2 is not much of a difference. Fully maxed out for power comparing both with identical parts, the 6.2 should make more power, but nothing to worry about. 6.0 would be easier to find and if you're keeping stock crank rods pistons, look for an early gen4 6.0.

My first turbo 6.0 was a stock gen3 with the same turbo. I had an underperforming fuel system and smoked a couple pistons. Went and found another 6.0 and just took it to a machine shop and had them install forged rods, pistons, arp everything and balanced the rotating assembly. Also upgraded damn near everything else. Get the lower end of the motor built to last and you cant go wrong.
