Default Air to water intercooler on chevelle

This is just something I wanted to share about what I did and how. Also some results too. I have an iron block 370 with ported 243 heads and ls6 intake that breathes through a vortech v3 si. The kit I bought claims no intercooler needed. That is a lie. Cruising around 70° weather I see 120-140 IAT. Once I start to get into the throttle I start seeing 150° and climbing. I considered the cxracing intercooler kit for my 1972 chevelle but the pictures seemed too close for an electric fan to fit. I finally settled on a mishimoto air to water intercooler that is good for "1200" hp. And the "750hp" heat exchanger they offer. I used a rule 401 pump from Amazon and 3/4 heater hose. I have it run on a toggle switch to potentially extend pump life. Now with the pump on and rowing gears aggressively. I don't climb over 100°. The temp drop is immediate once powered on.

At the moment, just water. I haven't looked into a better choice. Thought about a diluted antifreeze. Anybody have a suggestion with experience. I'd be interested in that.

no tank, just pumped to heat exchanger and back.

Cool setup, and it works-planning on using an A/W setup on my new build, kind of same deal, IC'er, small rad., and pump. Prob trigger the IC'er pump off intake temps.

People with full frame cars should use those as water reservoirs instead of radiators for 1/4mile runs. For road race setups, I would prefer to use the box frame rails to cool the oil instead.

Thats pretty good considering that the intercooler is on top of the engine and is getting heat soaked. Id be curious to see if the temps would drop if the intercooler was located in front of the engine.

Im running an a2w setup but plan to chill the water with an electric ac compressor in the future. Heres the chiller if you’re interested https://killerchiller.com/

there are a few people that have gotten their ait’s into the 30f range.

Just water works amazing, I'm using an A2W on my current S484 setup and yesterday I made a hit on the street at 10lbs. and like a dipshit forgot to turn on my A2W pump and even with the pump not running my IAT's only hit 100 degrees.
When the pump is running its usually only 10 or so degrees above ambient, haven't run ice water yet but I'm sure it will be even better.
