To the best of my knowledge a mechanical wastegate is what it is. The only thing in my mind that would make it different for CO2 would be perhaps better seals and diaphragm inside for the added pressure? I have no idea though. Just plumb it normally and it'll be fine. Think of it like your CO2 bottle runs out or has a malfunction, the gate would just revert to normal operation.
Yes, the CO2 just adds pressure on the dome, so in order for the gate to open, it has to overcome the spring pressure as well as whatever CO2 pressure you have set, so as said, you'll just be on whatever spring pressure is in the gate.
