Default Started a new project, G body Malibu

Prob. time to post some of the details, kind of further along, so here goes.
Picked up the Bu on a deal, body man had started on it, frame off, primed, but comp. taken apart, I mean every nut and bolt, glass, basically gutted. Brought most of it home in a couple truck loads, lol. Took a while to figure out what was missing, chase them down, etc. Anyway, sold the Hornet, had started on a new engine for it, and spare 80E, so they go in the Bu. Engine is a 6.0, Has the Summit forged pistons, rods, ghost cam, 317 heads, 4150 style intake, 90 deg adapter, 92 mm TB. Using some spare decapped injectors temp. and Holley fuel rails, prob get some Bosch 210's later. Had Quick Perf build a 9" housing, threw in a spare rear I had. Using another Holley X Max. Bet. painting, chasing parts, fab work, esp with a torn rotator cuff, been challenging, esp at 76, lol. Here is a when I got it up to now pics, I will fill in the other stuff as I get time.

Pretty much finished, small things to do, but drove it a few times around the block. Brakes need some help, might try a 2 lb residual valve, make a better feel. Car runs good, trans seems OK, tune is decent. Once the brakes are fixed, I'll lean on it, lol I was able to snake a 4" exhaust to the rear bumper, might cut a radius in the rear bumper, as the ex kind aims at part of the bumper.

Well, I was going to blow the Hornet apart and redo it, change some things that were temp., but the engine bay was so tight, couldn't do what I really wanted to do. Plus redoing it, I would end up throwing more money in it, I try and not get underwater, so to speak, on a car, lol. The Malibu kind of gives me a clean slate, and was dirt cheap, lol. Like everybody else though, getting parts is tough, nobody stocks stuff.

A little update on the project, got enough stuff on it to try a start up, pretty much used the tune from the Hornet with some changes. Engine spun over twice and fired right up, idled like a champ. I didn't add enough water thru the upper hose, so had to fight with that, a couple leaks, PS and brakes. Bleed the 4 wheel disc, finally have a pedal. Maybe today I will see how the trans is, run it thru the gears on jackstands, get the fluid topped off. Used one of those flexible fill tubes, forgot how much I hate those, lol. Still have to paint the trunk, hood, bumpers, add a windshield, tidy up some stuff. Running a temp exhaust, 4" underneath, buggered in a 3.5" muffler I had, plan on 4" to the back bumper. G bodies have a deep floor on the pass side, makes exhaust tight, so may use 4" oval for part of it. I need to add some more pics of the build, so I need to catch it up. Ever since I changed to Windows 10 from 7, computer has been messed up, big mistake, and I am computer stupid, lol.

Might be a tight fit, but I'm sure you could get a turn down of some sort in there so you don't have to cut the bumper.

I think the pumps were Quantum 380's (they were cheap) using ck valves in each, thinking when one is running, it wouldn't use the other to return some fuel. (path of least resistance)
I run one out of boost, then the Holley turns the other on when in boost. I also have the option of switching on the second if the first one fails. Not sure how much blockage ck valves cause.
For now the cardboard deflector keeps the exhaust off the bumper, lol, but thinking of changing the muffler. I have a small one in front of the rear, and the diesel one out back. Not as quiet as I would like, they make a quiet diesel muffler, appears to be the same size as the one I have. I will prob weld up some kind of shield either way. Angle cutting 4" take a lot of room, lol.

I have 4" thick A/A, looked pretty ugly at first, but once I thru the bumper on, hid most of it. I will cut an opening in the bumper, give it more air.

I may have missed it on the timeline but if you built that car in 3.5 months I am blown away.

I'm not a big chevy guy but those late 70s early 80s Malibus are one of my favorites. Too bad you can't really find them anymore or if you do find one it's all rusty and they want 10g for it.

I dont know what brand the IC'er is, one of those generic ones. I was looking at the largest that would fit, help restriction, since it's a "budget" cooler, lol.
I was looking at my tune from last trip around the block, I did bleep it once, based on the learn table, it hit a quick 14 PSI around 4500, numbers are prob off, since the Holley system kind of bleeds over into other cells, but was surprised how quick the boost came in. Its the VS 80mm, maybe I should have gone bigger, lol. I realized I didn't have the boost safety set for ign cut, it was set for boost cut, and I am running on spring now, lol. Gotta pay more attention. I have an aftermarket controller, but not setup yet, prob should have rearranged some outputs and used the Holley on it.
Prob took closer to 6 months from the start, I work by myself, and with the torn rotator cuff, slowed down a little, lol. I did get a cort. shot couple weeks ok, shoulder feels like a 16 YO again, lol.

14 psi is wild on the street, always feels good every time I hit the go baby go pedal.

Did you paint it too?

I painted it, painted all my cars, just dont enjoy it anymore, lol. I have to go back over it and do some more cutting and buffing, with the bad shoulder it was hard. Might have a buddy come over and do that, he makes them look better, lol. He also likes the money, lol.
Somedays you make small progress, yet its enjoyable-got all the interior (curtesy lights) working with door switches, made a hood prop since I can't use springs for the fiberglass hood. I wanted the hood prop to stay in the engine comp. rather than drag it around. I had bought one I saw on line, ended up using a Holley fuel rail bracket to attach it to the core support, slit a piece of rubber and makes a nice cradle to hold the rod when not in use. My UMI front stabilizer bar arrived, so thru that on. Man, its like another 30-40 lbs on the front end. When I installed the wastegate, didn't even think about any interference in that area, ended up with about 1/8" clearance from the stabilizer bar, so minor problem averted. I need more days like that.
