OP,

Cool project you have here. You've received some great advice from the community.

We wouldn't hesitate to put our SUM-8715R1 "Ghost" cam or stage 2 turbo cam SUM-8706R1 in this combo. Either would work well with your planned gears and converter. The Ghost cam would have a smooth idle to noticeable lope whereas the 8706R1 would have a steady lope. The Ghost cam has -2* of overlap and the 8706R1 has 2* of overlap so both will be easy to tune and get along with. You can pair either with our .600" lift beehives and your stock retainers and they'll be happy out to 7,000+.

We know our customers like combos so we have Pro LS cam combos to help with a cam swap. You can get a cam and spring combo or a cam, spring, and install/gasket kit combo.
- For all 8715R1 combos check here
- For all 8706R1 combos check here

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We'll be happy to help!

Thanks for the reply. So this kit, SUM-8706-1DS has the dual springs and retainers for not much more money. In your opinion pros and cons between this and the single behives with stock retainers.

Also I have looked through the specs and fail to see the difference in each of the kits:

SUM-8706-1DS and SUM-8706-1DT

Just a wild guess, maybe the more expensive kit has gaskets and balancer bolt. They mention a stage one and two kit, prob not meant to be the cam, but the kit components. They prob need to rewrite the specs.

"S" = steel retainers
"T" = titanium retainers, about $90 more
For street, steel is more durable. Titanium can fret and chip, being more brittle.

With the beehives your saving some coin and can use your stock retainers, locks, and seals. We don't see any cons with them when paired correctly with a given cam. Some folks don't like them because in the event of a spring failure you don't have a second spring as a fail-safe. We haven't heard of any spring failures with our beehives.

With duals, other than the increase in cost it's pretty much pro's. Although, we do typically recommend a trunnion upgrade kit when going with duals due to the added open spring pressure.

@G Atsma has you covered there. The only difference is the valve spring retainers. -1DS comes with steel retainers and -1DT comes with titanium retainers. Other than that those two kits are exactly the same.

When looking at kits or combos check the kit/combo contents tab within the overview for the given combo. That will show you the individual parts within the kit.

- SUM-8706-1DS kit/combo contents

- SUM-8706-1DT kit/combo contents

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
