Running a trubo without exhaust?

I am currently looking to install my first turbo and i am looking into the different parts.
i am looking to hook it into my i take but if i do so, will i have to hook my exhaust to it as well?
im trying to get the basics down as i am not too good on how the systems as a whole operate (whats needed and such) if anybody is able to help me i would greatly appreciate it.

you have a lot more reading to do on what a turbo is and how it works.
good luck, there is lots and lots of great info out there tailored perfectly to folks new to the hobby.

to me it sounded like he was asking if the turbo itself needed to be hooked to the exhaust

That's a pretty important aspect of the turbo. Unless the O.P. means downpipe, but they serve a purpose too.
