Shopping for a blanket and maybe wrap for the downpipe. I was hoping someone had done a side by side comparison by now but no luck. I’m just trying to cut the heat down in the engine bay, Amazon/eBay decent enough? I read somewhere some use a T6 blanket over a T4 blanket for extra insulation.

I did the wrap and regretted it a few months down the road when i had fiberglass ALL over my engine bay and trans tunnel. If you turned off the lights and shined a flashlight on the bay you see all the fiberglass reflecting in the light. Unfortunately it breaks down due to heat cycling and gets real bad once it gets wet.

Some people like the swain-tech or jet hot coatings but I personally think its an expensive waste of time.

the last solution is what the high end oems use which is high temp ceramic fiber with stainless sheet.

I buy the shitty black turbine covers but for wrap I will only use real dei lava wrap. All the other wrap is trash and arguably downright unhealthy

Can you tell me where you sourced the material from? I've seen stainless embossed material. Interested in running this in a few spots on my hotside. Did you space it from the piping or apply it directly?

For complete coverage the part gets sent in. There is also another company selling a similar product but is definitely not the same.

I wonder if there’s any parts cars at the wrecking yard that could donate said type of heat barrier?

I haven’t seen it on anything other than a few diesel and fleet/equipment applications so probably not. Another factor that limits this is the formed fitment.

The cheap way to do it is to just use clamps or wire to keep it on but im going to use my tig and just tack it together. Heres a youtube bideo showing how its done:

I actually just asked a question similar to this. I originally bought and ran an Amazon turbo blanket on my vs racing 80mm t6 and whatever cheap exhaust wrap that it came with. The blanket was horrible and turned white and flaky from the heat the same goes for the exhaust wrap.

I recently bought a much better blanket from Black Sheep Industries and some DEI titanium wrap for the DP and what a huge difference it makes keeping all that heat contained.

A trick I found was to coat and seal it after it's installed. I use SS safety wire to secure it tightly. Works much better than the SS zip ties. Coat the exhaust well with BBQ grill paint. Then wrap and heavily coat the wrap with BBQ grill paint. This stops the shedding of the fiberglass and locks out oil and water. I've had cheap glass wrap last years and years this way.

It doesn't peel or flake off. I even spray my exhaust housing and manifolds directly with the stuff.

I saw a guys GTO at my builders shop last week who also said over the years he only uses BBQ grill paint. He said he puts 3-4 coats on his hot piping. Sometimes he also wraps but not always. It looked good too, like a nice paint job. I'm definitely doing exactly what Forcefed86 described.
