Default 1100hp + Radial tire shake + 12 Bolt diff =

Yep. This was a factory GM 3.31 gear set. The fifth set of gears in this housing. First one to lose teef. All the aftermarket gear sets start out quiet, and begin howling after about ten passes and steadily get worse over time until you can’t stand to drive on the freeway.

So now I have this:

Moser bolt in housing, 1” narrower. 3.50 Pro Gears in the Yukon turd member.

Hopefully someone can use the 12 bolt. It just needs gears and bearings. Will survive under a bit less power.

Curious, how well did your 12 bolt hold up to daily driving? i just put a detroit trutrac, Richmond ring gear and pinion and some moser axles in mine, aiming at 800-900whp on the street in a 4300lb C10. Think it will survive?

Same issue with my last car, Moser 12 bolt, 3.73 gear, 700whp six speed car.
Gears were nice and quiet until I dumped the clutch and then it'd get steadily louder on accel and decel, heard the same from many folks.
Current car has a MWC 9 inch with 3.50 gear and it howls ever so slightly on decel but that's it and I've been hitting it with 700+whp and it remains unchanged.
I think you'll be much happier with it.

You fix Chevys by putting Ford parts on them and you fix Fords by putting Chevy parts on them lol.

A few hard leaves on a 12 bolt and they start making noise honestly.

One of my local buddies also had to replace 2-3 ring/pinions.

12 bolts have limits for sure.
I believe the C10 truck 12 bolt is totally different than the car diff. So can’t comment on that.

Before I found the GM 3.31’s, I had US Gear 3.42’s. They howled so bad after a few years I guarantee people around me on the freeway could hear it.

This center section was in my buddies 8 sec Malibu wagon. It was quiet so I hope it still is.

My Calvert split mono rear sections will be here today. So I may have it mostly together tomorrow. Pretty sure I’ll need a longer driveshaft.

Surprises me that they don't do as well as the 8.8, if you catch the irony.

No. I spoke with them about that. He said only necessary for max effort stuff. And said they aren’t very street friendly.

I’ve run sliders on my Nova for the past 8 years and not an issue. They free up the rear suspension a lot and for street driving it’s really nice to get a “plush ride” with the sliders and soft shocks settings. I’m far from max effort, however, I do make EVERY effort to mess with more than I probably should at times so keep that in mind.

12 bolt has always been known to hold power but damn 1100 is pushing it.

I run a 9" in my TA thats pushing over 1000 WHP and a 12 bolt in my wifes TA that pushes 600 whp. Seems to be a good combo.

The guy that built my 9" told me id never have to worry about it at all, so thats a good feeling lol

Gotcha.
I think they get the "unfriendly on the street" rep from occasional rattles and maybe poor setup/location.

Sliders work- especially on less than prepped surfaces.

If I remember correctly the 12 bolt has an 8.75 in ring gear and the pinion placement in relation to the ring gear isn't ideal, it tends to move around with high hp cars.
The Ford 8.8 is, well, an 8.8-inch ring gear with much better pinion placement so they hold up better.
The 9 inch is big, but pinion placement could be better but with the big ring gear it doesn't hamper it much.
The Dana 60 is the best supposedly with a 9.75-inch ring gear and excellent pinion placement, so it doesn't move and costs the least amount of power to turn.
