Default Ran with new kit.... need advice now please.

Well I ran again this past friday. Unfortunately the ET streets I was using I had to give back so I was running on BFG DR's. The temp was approx. the same as it was when I ran with the old kit but the humidity was definitely worse this time around. I was running the same psi as before when I ran the 11.3 @ 120 w/ 1.67 60'. My best pass of the evening was an 11.5 @ 124.5 w/1.85 60' so I picked up a solid 4mph over the TTi kit using the same intercooler and turbo. Both times were on pump gas and alky injection.
The 60's were decent I guess, I was launching at 3200rpm off the two-step versus 4900rpm with the ET streets before. On DR's the car would hook initially then right after the 60', the car would break loose in 1st gear, I would pedal it then shift to second... from then on it would hook.

After talking with a few turbo gurus, they have all agreed that I am out of turbo. So now I must decide what to do. I can fit a T70 in the exact same spot in a matter of minutes, however even with that turbo I will be on the edge of the lowest efficiency line. But for ~$500 I could make more power and run the rest of this season. Supposedly it is good for 840fwhp with a tangential housing, I would still be using the on-center though.

Another alternative is to go with a T76, still on-center exhaust housing, modify quite a few things(due to it's larger physical size) and be up and running in a couple weeks.

Lastly, I could go with a GT45 rated for 1000fwhp, with tangential housing, sell my TTi street kit as complete, modify the same things needed to fit the T76 in there and remake the entire cold side of my kit with the addition of either a large FMIC or an A-W cooler like the TT race kit uses with the reservoir in the trunk. This however will take the rest of the season to do, so no more racing for quite awhile... If I had the parts I could do it in a week or two, I just will not have the money to get everything all at once. (by the way my IAT's those passes went from 115/120 degrees in the burnout box to 180 by the end of the run... before the alky injection. )

So basically I need some advice on what I should do.

Does anyone know how many psi I can run with straight methanol injection on 93 octane, stock compression? I have seen as much as 12 psi through tq peak with ~0 KR. My tune is very conservative.. with my AFR being no leaner than 11.2 at any point, most of the time it is < 11.0 :1 and my max timing is 16 degrees.

Thanks for any help,

-Jarrod

You dont want to hear this, but I would sell the TTi kit and redo it all, with the gt45.
That way you wont ever run out of turbo, and youll have a better intercooler.
Youll loose this season, but gain many more in the future with it.

with what you get for hte TTi kit you should be able to buy most of the part for the new kit

I Agree, with the money gained here you would almost fund the entire new project.

Yeah you could even pick up a set of those truck manifolds and use them as headers. Hell, look at what Kurt Urban has been doing with them. Im sure they are more than sufficient. All youd need would be a custom crossover that you could make with probably $100-$200 in mild steel materials.

Good luck!

you could just get the small frame T76 from turbotech. that wil bolt up just like your T61 wont it.
the sell your T61
then next year sell the entire turbotech kit with the bigger T76 and get a bigger turbo.

Thanks guys for the input...... i think I am just going to suck it up, try to put a small frame T76 P-trim on here with a large FMIC, copy the turbotech alt. brkt and sell the TTi kit..... i was adding it all up tonight... factoring in the new turbo, intercooler, more 3" mandrel tubing, silicon hoses/clamps, other odds and ends... it will be really close to what I think I can sell this TTi kit for. By the way, anyone want a TTi kit?

Also I am looking for the turbo mentioned above if anyone has one laying around.

Thanks to Jose (aka JZ 97 SS 1500) and frcefed as well

How much more power could you make with the T70?

Also I would consider running water and alky. It works well and you'll only use half the alky.

If the T70 will get you an extra 70-100+ RWHP I would just go T70 for the rest of the year. The season is half over, may as well race and enjoy the car

Well by looking at he compressor map of the T70.. looks like I will be in the same boat with it as the T66.... I would guess I could get close to 600rwhp.. but I think my set-up will do 700rwhp+ with the right turbo and my stock engine minus the cam.

I have never tried running water.... I started off with denatured alky then found methanol for half the price so I went with that. Plus I have read on a few sites that meth is the best to run. So is water/meth as good as or better than straight meth? I am buying it here for $4.95/gallon. I might just try it.

Yea I agree... I thinking either put the T70 on there, run the rest of the season and start gathering parts to fit the 76 on there, or just run what I have for now... I have only been to track once with my kit and haven't tried it with some ET streets yet. I think I can get into the 10's as is now..... but having to see a 775rwhp turbo firebird everyday keeps me from being happy at the hp I am now

Thanks again guys,

-Jarrod

T76 small frame, T76 small frame!! muhhaaaaaa!

ya seeing a 1150 fwhp formula prevents me from being happy as well
fix that: seeing running Fbods any where prevents me from being happy.
i want my car to run again dang it!

RICE ETR,

Here is a couple of things to consider; Look at the Garrett GT40R it is about the same size as the T76 but far more efficient and if you want to look at a bigger turbo the GT42R is a mid frame turbo with the T4 flange option. The mid frame turbo will fit albeit tightly in our cars.

I can give you more info if you need it.

I hear ya Smokin..... mine will be out of service here in a few days
By the way, If that is a T76 in your avatar... could you tell me what that tape measure reads? Palease That's the measurement I need to see just how much tweaking I have to do to get one to fit. Is that a small frame?

Paul,

How much is that turbo? I have a good price on a T76 from someone on this site that am getting ready to buy unless you can talk me out of it Send me some info please.

Thanks
