Default Titanium for hotside piping?

We usually see stainless tubing leading from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo flange but what about titanium? Im making the rest of the exhaust out of 4” titanium pipe so its not any more work vs stainless.

Aside from the cost, I would be concerned that titanium dissipates heat better than stainless steel, meaning more heat in your engine bay and less in your turbo.

Coming from a welder of 30+ years that has welded titanium and understands the nuances of titanium I just don't get the fascination with it. Yes it's light, yes it's pretty but it's not the end all material. Give me 321 stainless or inconel any day for extreme heat applications.

The problem with titanium is it’s just so expensive you can’t save more than ounces at a time at the cost of hundreds of dollars so it’s really last in line on materials.
based on strength requirements:
plastic > aluminum > ti > steel

I rebuilt 3 of 4 motor mounts on my tube chassis bug in titanium and it saved just under 3 lb total

man you need a back purge plate and way more gas! You’ll see my setup when i come for my tune lol. Ive replaced all my fasteners with titanium, aluminum, and removed many of them. Also using a bunch of carbon fiber to replace panels like the hatch, roof, hood, and fenders.

its cool to see other people going the distance on weight reduction. i dont really get to work on my bug much but thats the plan for it, lots of titanium, aluminum hardware, ive been 3d printing asa lately and testing that so hoping to utilize lots of plastic too.
my big focus the last 6 months has been the wagon and thats kinda a waste to do exotics on since its so big and heavy to begin with.

I wouldn't do titanium from an exhaust manifold to a turbo flange but running titanium after the turbo can save a LOT of weight depending on how much you have. Just two titanium mufflers and a bit of titanium for the bends and tips after the turbos on my Viper saved ~35 lbs over the stock setup.

thats great to hear! The old 3.5” stainless x pipe and muffler setup I used to run was over 70lbs so im hoping to lose quite a bit by going to a single 4” in titanium.
