Default Stinky Turbo Blanket

Does your Turbo Blanket smell like a burning carpet ?
Pretty sure I don;t have an exhaust leak Maybe have 50 hours of run time with blanket on, still smells like a wet dog sleeping too close to campfire..

.
Getting ready to just run NAKED.
( How many run naked on the street? )

.edit: How do you make a POLL ?

Spray it down with BBQ grill paint to seal in the stank. Though I can honestly say I never had a super stinky turbo blanket.

Maybe it WAS an exhaust flange leak: Had a copper gasket in there, between downpipe and Marmon outlet flange.
Most guys run the downpipe straight Steel to STEEL, right ?

Get yourself a better quality turbo blanket. I run a black sheep industries blanket and it's mint ?

I had blankets on mine to protect other components from heat, rather than to keep heat in the turbo for spoolup. After an issue with a bad oil supply line, then another leaky oil fitting, I decided to ditch the absorbent fire hazards completely. I use the dimpled aluminum heat shield stuff like the OEMs use on exhaust now. It was easy to cut pieces from a sheet and form to fit, then rivet in place. The bonus is no more itching every time I open the hood.

Put a Piece of Heat-Shield between the Turbine and Blanket. Have had ebay/amazon Blankets want to burn (also stink) and this stops it.
Can buy new, or get pieces from the underside of vehicles.

I will say if you drench the things in BBQ grill paint they no longer drop glass particles everywhere and they shed water/oil (to a point anyway). I don’t have any of the usual glass mess once coated. I believe the lava mat blankets also dont’ shed any glass, but they are more expensive. I juse the dirt cheap blankets and heat wrap. Then hose them down good w paint to lock all that crap in.

That stainless shield is also weldable. Can s secure it with a bunch of little tig spot welds and it looks great.

That stamped heat shield material looks like it would serve equally well to hide my awful looking welds on the downpipe.
