Default Intercooler suggestions

I have a twin gt35 402. I have a cx racing intercooler for it but my intake temps are so high that the pcm is pulling 3-6 degrees of timing and I’m ranging from 150-180 intake temps.

I would like to get one put together where I can mount and just redo my charge pipes but I’m not totally against doing more fab work.

thanks

Garrett cores are the best
Then there is a huge gap to the next best which is Bell and Vibrant
Followed by Treadstone

Cx racing intercooler's are junk, my temps were high too and I pulled it off and put a treadstone and it was night and day difference.

How much boost are you running to get those intake temps?

I run a cheap intercooler on my twin setup. I've never seen temps in the triple digits. Both turbos are pulling air from outside the engine bay, which I believe helps tremendously.

have you ever ran a cx racing intercooler? I personally have experience with them, I bought one of there kits for my truck and piece by piece damn near took everything from there kit off my truck. Thr only thing i have left from them is the bov and the piping. The intercooler was the first thing i took off for these exact reasons and my turbo is mounted near the passenger headlight so it gets plenty of air.

Never used a CX cooler. The one I use now is just a universal ebay unit. I can't seem to think its any better or worse than an intercooler from CX. Just as a test, I may pull out my intercooler and put a straight pipe in place, just for data comparison.

With the cx I could add 50-70 degrees of IAT on a 1-3 gear rip on the street. I did the exact same thing and temps went from rising faster than my MPH, to staying in the double digit temps under boost..

Yikes. I don't gain over 15°, above ambient temps after doing a full pull. Just cruising I see only a few deg above ambient.

Exactly what I was seeing — temps were shooting up that high and fast after just one dyno pull, even with fans blasting on it. Honestly, the kit was a total waste of money. The intercooler was trash and had my temps through the roof, so I swapped it out for a Treadstone. The wastegate was all over the place with boost spikes — I even tried putting a screw in the top to control it, but it was useless. Couldn’t build more than 12 psi in 1st or 2nd, then it would randomly spike to 17 psi in 3rd. I ended up ditching the turbo and wastegate and went with VS Racing stuff instead, which fixed that issue. Then the manifolds started leaking and getting the plugs so hot they were cracking. I kept the passenger-side flange for the T4, ran a factory driver-side header, and my buddy basically rebuilt the whole hot side from scratch, only reusing the flanges we needed. On top of that, the cold-side couplers kept blowing off, so we bead rolled all the pipes and replaced all the couplers after having to rework the fitment. Long story short — we ended up building the whole setup ourselves and trashed all the CX Racing junk I wasted 3 grand on.

I bought an On3 kit once, realized the whole thing was trash, sent it back. Since then I've built all my systems. Never had any problems.

I had gotten out of the car game for a long time. I used to be big into the imports but it had been a long time since I had any kind of modified ride. I have 2 buddies that are big into the ls world and they told me from the start that they would help me build everything and I didnt listen and ended up going back to them asking for help. Long story short im good friends with them now and have learned many lessons.

ON3 has some great IC's for the price as well. I'd say they tend to work as good as if not better than most of the treadstone units. Esp the thick core units. What fuel is the Op's setup on? What boost level? 170* isn't nightmarish charge temps wise with decent fuel. Unless its on pump fuel, you likely are pulling too much timing with those charge temps. For refrence I routinely run 220-250* charge temps with E85 and no intercooler and do just fine.
