Default Turbo oiling system question regarding remote mount filter...

Tommorow I'll be putting my custom turbo setup on my car, it's going to Mimick the STS kit but with a larger turbo. For the oiling system I have an external electric oil pump for the return side. I have an inline filter for it to keep garbage out of the engine's oil pan if the turbo were to fail. My question is, does it matter if the oil filter is before or after the electric pump. Keep in mind the return off of the turbo is gravity feed, so I was thinking the filter before the pump would be better to create a reservoir of gravity fed oil for the pump.... does this make sense and does it matter where the filter is, before or after?

what I mean is the turbo itself has a gravity fed return in which I am hooking up an electric pump to push it back to the oil pan, just need to determine if I put the oil filter after the electric pump or before.

Depends on what kind of pump (diaphragm, centrifugal), were it is located in relation to the turbo. You really want to protect the pump from junk, but you want very little restriction on the inlet side of the pump. Since the turbo is so far back you need the return pump mounted near the turbo. Depending on the pump characteristics you could put the filter in between the turbo and pump. The likely hood that anything in the turbo is going to fail and put junk into the pump is minimal. Plus the engine still has the screen on the pickup and has filtered oil. Don't forget to had a check valve on the oil supply just before the turbo. Otherwise you could have oil pushing through the turbo seals when the turbo is not spinning (which leaves oil in the exhaust usually).

You really don't have any gravity feed so I would stop saying you do, it will just confuse everyone.
