Default Headers and turbo

Is there really no benefit of using headers with a turbo? Going with the STS kit. If headers do not help I'll put the stock manifolds back on. The money from selling the headers can help off set the cost of the turbo kit.

I would GUESS that they would help but may slow spool a little.

With the STS, I would leave the stock manifolds on. If you already have them on and dont want to change, no big deal. I would buy any though.

Yea i have hooker headers on my car but may buy a STS turbo kit soon. I love the way my car sounds right now and would like to keep the headers on. Why would keeping my headers on hurt my turbo performance?

Gonna swap the engine and I have LT headers on the truck currently. If there is no benefit it would be easy to remove them with the engine swap, especially if there are no gains over stock manifolds.

You're car is going to sound different with the turbo anyway so don't expect it to sound just like it does now

As for hurting your performance. No one said it would. They just said it probably won't help and could hurt spool time. I tried with and without headers and nothing really seems to have changed but since none of us have dyno'd before and after I can't say for sure. IMO if it is that little of a diffeence then save some money and make smog time that much easier. Besides, you're restriction is in the turbo now, not the ehxaust system.

My thoughts are that while big power can be made with efficient cast iron manifolds - and in many cases there may be hardly any difference between using headers or not - there is one advantage that well made headers can have over manifolds - reduced back pressure.

Because there is less back pressure the cam can be optimized differently to what a log type manifold would require - and that may provide an opportunity to make a little more power.

Nice headers will certainly help a turbo engine tolerate a cam with more overlap and that could mean worthwhile power gains.
