Default LS2 block for boost

I have my motor out now. The dry sleeves were leaking coolant into the oil. I'm weighing my options now. I like big cubes. I am looking at the Darton wet sleeve but am concerned about the sealing surface looking questionable for boost with the water jackets and such outside of the bore. I see that the LS2 blocks are coming out now with a 4.0 bore (that may be able to go a little larger). From what I've read I would have to wait a little for the camshafts to come out (I've got some time) but that everything else should transfer. I would put my Lunati 4.00 crank and rods into the new block. I would run the 6.0 GM MLS gaskets since Harlan has proved they are a great gasket for boost. I may even switch to turbo also (damn you turbo guys and your power). Since I know little about turbo's, is their a kit that could feed an appr. 400 CID engine with 12 lbs. + boost and keep the air conditioning or would it have to be custom? I also want to keep my stock K-member because I have read that the tubular pieces make convertibles feel shakier than they already are.

I don't think the LS1 crank will work in an LS2 block. The reluctor wheel was moved from the rear (LS1) to the front (LS2).

didnt they move some stuff inside the two blocks im not sure how compatible everything is, you'd be the first to do a ls2 swap

First i thought you had an Iron block, did you get it sleeved or was i wrong and your running an aluminum block?

i talked to the engineer who helped devolop the darton sleeves and he seemed pretty confident of there ability, they use these on the highpowered import dragcars and top fuel dragcars running alot of boost and he said they dont have sealing problems

id either do an iron block or darton sleeved, i think its to early in the game to switch out an ls2, unless your into pinioering.

the only turbo kit right now that could support a big engine like your talking about is the TTi race kit, but you have to remove your AC
or a custom kit.
id encourage you to step to the dark side and go turbo!

big problem (well not that big i guess) is keeping the stock k-member its a real advantage in freeing up room for a real important Bigger downpipe. The downpipe size is very important.

for the HP levels your wanting you need at least a 3.5" which you cant do without a aftermarket k-member.
is the source you heard that they "shake more" acurate could you live with that?

you could just do a custom blower set up like PSJ too, he's making some good power

How much power is he looking at making? I'm making over 700rwhp with a 3" downpipe.

Smokin', no its an aluminum block. Chris at APE said It might be able to be repaired using their sealing process. HP performance is coming out with a turbo kit with a T76 option that lets you keep the A.C. (though from what I've read that would not be a good turbo for big cubes). I think I read that PTK is also coming out with an F-body kit. I love torque. We had a little Mitsu Eclipse in the shop the other day that had a juiced up turbo and it would just blow the tires off when it hit boost (at least in 1st & 2nd). I have never been in a turbo LS1 but by looking at the dyno sheets and track times I think I could take it up to another level. 700+ rwhp on 94 octane sounds like a goal. 4.00 bore x 4.00 stroke LS2 turbo sound good too.

You need twins...keeps spool quick and wont max the turbos easily. My 2 cents.

with 400+ cubes i dont think spool time will be an issue.
you can make 700rwhp with a 2.5" down pipe (Rob Raymer did on his old turbotech kit) its not the best way to do it, id think you'd end up hurting the motor.
so it can be down with a smaller DP, but its so much better with a bigger one (mmmmm, dreams of a 4" down pipe running through my head right now)

only modded supercharged car ive drove was my friends 96 LT1 vortech charged TA. the power band feels completly different, his would burn the tires off easier (maybe casue he had 3.73s) but my TA would pull the ***** off his car.
i could get on it easy, but when it would build full boost it would break the tires loose, you could definatly feel how much the turbo was adding power, his it just felt like it amplified the engines power at the rev level as the boost went up with RPM.
THe only thing id trade my turbo for is a bigger one!

Id give you a ride in my car so you could feel what a turbo ls1 is like, but im turboless right now, maybe you should hit me up next spring.

It looks like its real hard to find a good turbo kit or one that will work with big cubes, bout the only one out that could is the TTi race kit, but its expensive and doesnt keep AC.
