Question LSx best sbc for boost?

I was just wondering if the LSx series of engines hold any type of advantage for a boosted application (namely turbo) over their older counterparts; ie. the pre-87 sbc, the L98 or the LT1. They obviously hold a clear advantage in available power from the factory, but what about when looking at them for a dedicated turbo build (around 1000 or so rwhp). I am mostly concerned with the ability, the availability, and the cost of the parts required for such a build. Space and weight concerns are also valid. Also, considering the power level, anything from the aftermarket would have to be fair game for this comparison.

Anyone have an opinion on this one way or the other???

I did it again, I would go with an LT-1. You can get an LT-1 car for 3-4k. They have an iron block and have cheaper shared sbc parts, ie pistons, rods.

They won't make as much power at the same boost levels but would be alot cheaper to repair and replace.

I figured price would play a big role in this. Currently, it seems to be one of, if not the only down fall with the LSx's that I am aware of.

Also, I would consider the aluminum block an advantage because of the weight savings. Maybe they're not as durable as iron or steel, but I don't hear too many complaining about that around these parts.

I always thought old school SBC would be good, cheaper parts, HUGE aftermarket and some things are just more durable.

385ci SBC, Brodix heads, custom sheetmetal intake, 1000 cfm throttlebody... I think a motor like that would be hard to beat. More headbolts right, and some ported aftermarket head castings can flow almost 400 cfm.

The trouble with the aluminum blocks is keeping the heads on under extreme cylinder pressures... Not enough bolts per cylinder.

yep, the SBC's are the best thing to use. If you are looking for a max effort FI power plant, I would not start with the LSX.

SBC all the way. First, just like PSJ said, more bolts to hold the cylinder head to the block (huge disadvantage to the LS1 crowd). Second, in my opinion is the intakes available (considering you didn't go with a sheetmetal for an LS1 or the SBC). Tons of options there, with the availability to port pretty heavily. And also again like PSJ said -- heads that flow BIG numbers.
